Where are all the Draft Prospects Breaks?

Is anyone else surprised by the lack of people breaking these?

I mean, for a little more than $100(I paid $115), you get 3 Autos, 2 memorabilia(all of which are serial numbered) and in most cases a numbered base parallel.

I thought it was a fun product to break with some nice looking cards and I am planning on buying more once my LCS re-stocks.

I am shocked by the lack of interest in it though, especially since it is the first joint offering from ITG/LEAF.

Is it because contenders and SPA are selling so well, or is it just a case of people not wanting to take a chance on it and would rather just poach single from ebay?

I was really looking forward to seeing some breaks of this stuff and thus far have been disappointed by the lack of people busting it to say the least.

Just in case you missed it, here is what I broke:

    The base:

Next up, the hits, Pettersson is hard to see but is a parallel numbered to /10:

Probably people saw a few breaks and said no thanks.
    Bad draft year don't help.
    Ebay sales not great either.

Spa/contenders is mediocre as it is...

You can get 13-14 heros and prospects for $40...

I broke a box this week:

Let me know if you would be interested in swapping your Draisaitl auto for Reinhart.

I was really excited for this product, but it's very meh. The design is very boring and it's really not that much different than the cheaper H & P. I also think the release was poorly timed, this product should have definitely been released BEFORE the draft, not weeks after.

From what I can see there are two main reasons

    1) SPA and contenders being somewhat relatively fresh made people turn away from Draft prospects

    2) Draft prospects was released after the draft which may have driven the demand for the product down as team collectors didn't have to guess what players their team was drafting.

And a possible 3rd reason is that Leaf adapted their terminology of a "patch" into hockey in which they are not in the hockey hobby. I've seen 2 coloured jerseys called "patches".

Weak draft class, none of the current Habs picks have any significant content, for some reason some veterans/legends goalie masks have logos airbrushed out and others do not, the jersey/"patch" issue...and timing. The licensees happened to be putting out two of their signature products at roughly the same time, effectively sandwiching this release. People will always be breaking SP Authentic and many are fans of Contenders with the hot boxes...there's only so much money to go around.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I was all for 13-14 Draft Prospects and since I opened it early I made some great sales on some cards. I would like to have bought this years Draft Prospects but I'm really low on cash so I havent even broken anything since the Spring Expo in Toronto!

I am chasing some Red Wings draftees on eBay though.

Could just be people want NHL licensed cards. Dr. Price has not delivered that to collectors for years.

I personally do not break non themed ITG stuff. I believe H&P / Draft Prospects are their worst products .... I feel BTP is going a bit downhill as well .... esp the years when there are no Pad / Glove / Stick sets

There are likely multiple reason why this iteration of Draft Prospects hasn't been as popular which other folks have covered, but NHL licensing has absolutely nothing to do with it.

A few points - first Draft Prospects *IS* licensed - it mainly features players who have yet to play an NHL game, so while an NHL-licensed draft prospect set is not even possible the set features CHL-licensed cards... second, ITG's Stick Work which released just this year was insanely popular and an instant sellout, there quite evidently is a market for non-NHL licensed cards... and third, Dr. Price has not been offered an NHL license on terms that would allow him to compete with the other manufacturers, he's made it clear that he's willing to deliver NHL-licensed cards.

I'm sure there are other collectors like me who actually are happy in some respects that ITG isn't shackled by an NHL license - there are products they put out that either wouldn't be allowed under an NHL license, and I'm grateful that they have the flexibility to put out creative products that fill niches.
