grading tips needed

I'm sure this has been offered up before, but I wasn't finding much in the newer part of the archives.

I'm looking to send in a 1994 Arod Holoview Diecut Red for grading. I've never sent anything in to have graded. I'm definitely going with BGS, but want to see if there are any tips people have. I have the BGS print out with shipping instructions and they are very detailed, but just wanted to put out a feeler for personal experiences any has had as far as what to do.

Pretty self explanatory..I usually make use of a monthly special and submit 10-15 cards min to get my costs equalized/dferred, but other than that their instructions are it.

Double check your entries because that can slow your sub.

ditto the above post...i just like to look over the stuff im sending in to be sure they are worth sending in...if it comes back anything less than a 9, i dont find it worth it...8.5's carry the same value as the raw card, so if im not positive i will get that 9 or 9.5, ill save the money and keep it raw...thats the only advice i would give....i just got some cards back from beckett, so if you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me, and ill do the best to help!

I've never submitted to BGS, but I have submitted to PSA. The thing I learned was that you basically can't scrutinize the corners of cards enough. The easiest thing for me to miss (and that resulted in cards I thought would get 9s getting 8s) was minor corner defects, usually a tiny bend rather than the start of rounding. Examining them under good light at multiple angles is definitely helpful in this process. Many people also like to use a loupe to get some magnification.

I expect that this sort of scrutiny serves you well regardless of who you submit to.

I have to agree with the proudestmonkey; make sure it is worth turning in for a grade. If not, you'll be wasting your money. Personally, I wouldn't turn in a card no lower than $10 in value. That also depends on the grade of the card. If there's any damage to the card, then that's gonna knock it out of a chance to be a "Mint" card.
