PRIME question regarding team choices
Maybe Vegas can chime in here with an answer, some of the team choices in Prime seem really strange. The biggest issue to me is those gorgeous Selanne Jets patches that are actually Ducks cards. Why wouldn't these be Jets (Phoenix) cards? I was also in a midnight break and a sick Brett Hull prime colors logo was pulled. Just an unreal patch of the spoked wing in the Red Wings logo. Except it was a Dallas card?!? I would have been so pissed if I had bought Detroit in that break. Just wondering why these choices were made.

Cost - it costs money to re-set the printer for a new image that will only be used for a certain number of cards. So for all those guys who Panini has multiple jerseys of from multiple teams, they selected one image and used it for the whole spectrum.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Lame. When a pack of cards costs $200, design should be higher. Don't get me wrong, Prime is GORGEOUS and I'm going to miss Panini soooo much but I don't like this choice.

Could be other reasons, he's currently on the Ducks...but yeah it is lame.
Not very many like that though...

I believe that Chris Vegaspuck stated on one of the sites, that the reason that the jersey doesn't always match the photo is, part of the process is getting the card images approved, so instead of them only including jereseys that were the same as the picture, they also used other jerseys they had in their inventory to add more patch/logo cards. Hope I explained that right, can't remember what site/thread I saw it in. Found the post, here you go
"Because the cards had already gone to form and couldn't add new cards with new photos. So the options were to use only the patch pictured and throw out all the inventory or use the jerseys and have a small portion with a different jersey and add more Prime Colors. I stand by our decision to add more value and more hits for the box breakers."Last edited by joshpackham; 07-31-2014 at 07:24 PM. Reason: added info

Here's the reason. It wasn't planned. The Wings Hull, the Jets Selanne, the Canucks Neely, etc....were all planned for Prime next year. The teams listed were going to be the only jerseys we were going to use.
Then we lost the license....
The product was too far along to make new cards depicting players on different teams. Cards had already gone to form and there was no adding new images and cards without raising the price of the product that was already preordered.
There was two options. One...not use the inventory and lose it. Or....increase the Prime Colors card quantities and use all the jerseys including different teams to add more value to more packs and make a better breaking experience. True it would be awesome to have the patch match the pic. It's what we planned from the beginning. We got thrown a curve and took a swing and I think we hit it out of the park. The number of people happy with their breaks represents that.
Without using multiple jerseys per player you simply wouldn't get the same amount of patches per case.Last edited by vegaspuck; 07-31-2014 at 11:40 PM.

Makes sense. When I see a patch not matching the photo ... I usually stay far away from the card.
Given the 2 options .... Panini for sure made the right decision loading up their packs.
I guess that also explains the huge print runs for some of the Prime Colors. Makes sense though, that there are multiple patches used per person.
One quick question - Do you know if any 12/13 Prime Colors were released this year? I see other various sets, but dont think ive seen an older Prime Colors yet. I ask this, because im still looking for specific pieces to my players puzzle.
Thanks for the explanation!
