Gay bar found guilty of discrimination after refusing to let in a man dressed in drag

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-man-drag.html

Colorado regulators say a Denver gay bar discriminated against a man when a bouncer denied him entry last year because he was dressed in drag.

The civil rights division of the state's Department of Regulatory Agencies has ordered the Denver Wrangler to resolve the dispute with Vito Marzano, a gay man who was wearing a dress, wig and light make-up when he went to the bar August 31, 2013.

The order obtained Monday says the bouncer turned Marzano away because his appearance didn't match the one on his driver's license.

But regulators determined that the bar wrongly favors those with a masculine appearance because its dress code bars high heels, wigs and perfume.

In an essay for planetransgender.com Mr Marzano explains that he was wearing drag after attending a fundraising event for a 'predominately gay' men's rugby team that he had played with for a season.

The event required attendees to dress in women's clothing as there was a beauty pageant theme.

Recalling the chain of events, Mr Marzano continued: 'After the pageant, many participants began to change out of their drag clothes and head to the Denver Wrangler, a short walk down the street.

'I found my outfit quite comfortable and had no issue remaining in what I wearing.'

But when he approached the Denver Wrangler with friends and his husband, John Marzano, he found that he was denied entry because he did not look like his ID.

He added: 'At no point during this incident - and I repeat, at no point - did they say I was being denied entry because of my poor attitude or because I was acting belligerently.

'This was a debate about whether one of their policies is inherently transphobic.'

Mr Marzano said the incident made his 'blood boil' and he was determined to fight his case.

He hopes the recent order from the Department of Regulatory Agencies will help protect others from discrimination.

Maybe Colorado will now regulate Gay Bars by making them detail acceptable clients on a sign prominently featured on the outside of their building.
