13-14 panini prime
Greetings,
I have been collecting the panini prime hockey quad auto rookie jersey cards basically because they look sharp from scans. My problem is almost every single one I've received has been chipped on the dark edge. Is this common for this type of card or am I just getting bad cards? I really like these cards but getting discouraged because of the chipping.
Thanks for the input!

Yes. Majority of prime cards are chipped.
Basically any thick high end card is damaged in some way.

disagree with all thick high end cards being damaged in some way. I have many thick high end cards slabbed as PSA 10.

from what sets?
PSA 10 is far from perfect...
Obviously there are a few mint ones but look at any black border cards and they all have something.

It's unfortunate but pretty common across the spectrum of higher-end releases to have imperfect edges. There's just so much surface area that they get damaged more regularly than thinner cards. You can still get the occasional "perfect" card but most people, when buying or selling, understand that there can be issues with condition sensitive cards.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I know these aren't hockey but most of the football prestige thick cards that i have jersey or otherwise aren't chipped neither are my Select cards (but then again select isn't dark border either). Was just curious if it was just this specific brand from panini. Hate to spend a ton of money on something that isn't going to hold value. The cards look amazing and i like them but they are expensive...

Happens with a few UD releases as well - 07-08 Cup had a few chipping issues.
It won't appear everywhere but it's something that does happen from time to time.

13-14 Ultimate will probably have issues too.
13-14 Crown Royale is horrible for it.
Five Star in football is bad
Cup cards are pretty bad too depends on years.
Basically if i open a pack these days and a card is mint I am shocked...
YG's have plenty of issues...
Depends how closely you want to look but I can find something wrong with every card in person.
Is UD/Panini going to accept half my bedroom of cards for replacement???

Thanks for the advise I've been collecting regularly now for a year just got back in to it from years ago. So much product out there and serial numbers autos and patches it's so hard to know what's good out there. When I think I found a decent product that happened... So far I haven't had great luck with panini product...

You said basically all thick cards. I have many thick cards slabbed PSA 10 but doubt any black thick cards I have are 10's.
