Basketball luxury I believe it is called. I saw a Lebron/Jordan Dual Auto pulled from that. Plenty of other exciting things came out of it but too rich for my blood.

While set collectors are getting rarer there are those of us that still do it. I usually take between 2 and 4 sets a year from all 4 major sports and put together a master set of each. If you don't know what a master set is, thats every card, inserts, auto, jersey etc, from that set(I do not include cards numbered to 10 or less in my master sets). It is tough but I find it more fun then player collecting.

As for pack prices, most of the other posters hit it right on the head with price, with the average between $3 and $10. Just find something you like and stick with it. If you player collect then grab a bunch of different packs and if you get that player great, if not trade those cards for your player.

While I think it is a little crazy for anyone to spend that kind of money on a pack of cards, you will find some people on here that do it. I also collect video games and would rather spend that money on something like this.

RE: sets, yes many collectors complete base sets(moreso in MLB) but other sports are catching on to set collectors.....As stated above Topps still leads the way, having a continuos run since 1952 helps there.
Here's a few I notice:
Bowman(most lines), Topps Heritage(a biggie since 2001*1952 design*) Topps base, UD base to an extent. The area that's starting to catch is the subsets(I'll post a list in the next thread as an Ex.) in all releases.

Other sets are doable but the Short print rookies hamper those efforts, so you'll notice most listed as complete set 1-90 w/out SP's & 1-165 incl. SP rc's or close.

Upper Deck Exquisite is the 500++ pack I bought a pack of 04-05 I came up to 545 wasnt close to worth it

I bought a pack of 05 hof ud for $100 a few months ago. The pack had 4 cards I think and the bv for all of them was less than $45. These packs can give you awsome cards but more than likly will end up screwing you over. If you have the cash for these they are fun to open. but if the pack takes the rest of you card money for the week/month etc away and you get nothing it is very dissapointing. I am in the firm beliefe that any single card I want will come up on ebay and be 100 times less expensive than busting wax to get them. This is true weather the pack is $1 or $500. (this goes for everything but the super, super rare cards)
