If I were you I would take some time and hunt for good deals...... You can find some great steals every now and then and a lot of times they are for star players or guys like Cadilac.... Just be patient and hunt out those good deals!

true, you have to do your research on the players. I've found that if you're buying packs/boxes you should sell the #1,2,3 etc... draft picks right off the bat and hold the others. You never know when a 6th rounder will pop up and steal the Hobby thunder ala Brady. Inserts are worthless unless they are rookie inserts and mega superstar inserts.

Another thing to do some research on would be bulk lots. A lot of sellers dont want to take the time and sell everything individually. If your willing to take this time you could very well make a profit. You would have to research past auction sales on the highend cards and see where that takes you though.

I used to make a killing buying out of season. Now that it's baseball season, I would sell only baseball. I would buy football and basketball. During football season, i would do the opposite. Used to make alot that way. Now though, football is popular year round, so it doesn't do as well. My thought is, the more the player is in the news, the higher his stuff sells.

The key to making money in anything is buying low and selling high.
You can buy low and sell high by several means which other members have already touched base on. You could research up-and-coming prospects and buy their rookie cards low and early. As they excel you can re-sell higher. This way is pretty hit or miss though. Buying in bulk and then breaking it up and selling it in pieces works as well. But you have to have a good chunk of money to start out this way. Personally, I like Brian's method the most. Buyiing out of season and selling in season. Demand for cards out of season are low and the supply is just as high. Hold onto the cards until in season when their demand will be greatest.
Thanks,
Matt

One thing to consider when trying to make money selling sportscards on eBay is that "MOST" people are only willing to pay what completed items sold for.
Let's say you buy a card for $20 on eBay. Unless you got a steal, chances are that you won't get much more than $20 because many times people don't pay more than completed items sold for.
If you could buy from a source other than eBay and then resell on eBay you would have a greater chance of making some money.
One exception is that you buy an item before the player gets hot, or if the description/title was bad, or if you have a limited #ed item (#/25 or less)
Or if you could buy from eBay and then sell outside of eBay (in a store or something).
Here is one example. Brett Favre 91 UD Rookie. You can buy them for under $5 on eBay ungraded and you can buy a BGS 9.5 for $25-$30 (but also as low as $15). If you were to get one for under $20 the most you would be able to get for it would be $25-$30.
I guess it all depends on what you are dealing with and how much money you are trying to make. It can be done, it just isn't as easy as one would think.
Thanks

definitely buy in bulk. Go to your local shows and network. If people know you are buying they will start getting you stuff. You do have to work at it as far as not over paying.
Remember, if you get stuff cheap enough, you can make money selling ANYTHING. Don't try to pick up high dollar Big Ben cards right after he wins the super bowl. Same would have gone for Wade stuff right after they won the NBA championship.
I don't speculate because you have to hold most of that stuff. Just get stuff and flip it. I've been doing that for 10-12 years and have tons of regular buyers for all kinds of bulk lots. If you network enough you'll find lots of people looking to sell as well as people to buy. I have quite a few online buyers that I originally sold to on ebay and now just sell directly to them.
Also, if you speculate, FB may be the worst sport to do so. I say that because of the IR. There are tons of studs that go to the IR every year and are done until next season.
good luck, but themain thing is to make your money speak and buy in bulk. Everyone that has a great card to sell knows exactly what it goes for on ebay so there is no need to try to deal with them to get a Favre auto to resell on ebay.
