It's a kid. They cannot sign a binding contract no matter what it says. I think it speaks more to the insanity of the adults than to any trauma the kid will have to deal with.

People are misinterpreting the contract. It is not meant to be legally binding. It is used with adults who they think could be suicidal and it is meant for them to think twice before ending their life or somebody else's life. Now take your mind back to the situation at hand where a five year is judged as using a crayon for a gun and you see absurdity and idiocy of forcing a five year to sign this type of document.

There is no policy that supports forcing a 5 year old to sign a contract without their parents present in any school system. This is the actions of idiotic liberal PC administrators, nothing more.
And the little girl wouldn't be dragged through a trial. She would be deemed no more capable of testifying than of signing a binding contract. If anything they would do a 1-on-1 interview with her and record it and play the recording for the trial.
With that said, I am a teacher and I can assure you it would never see trial. School systems are scared to death of lawsuits. They would settle in a heartbeat. I have seen the school system I work for settle or give in even when they were in the right just to avoid any potential appearance that they are not doing what is in the best interest of the child.
Why fire the staff involved? Simple. They have their priorities screwed up. Their focus is not on education. They have already displayed their incompetence not to mention they broke the law by forcing a 5 year old to sign a contract without any legal or parental representation.
