    Declining card value

    Hey guys,
New here and wanted to Ask a maybe noob question. What factors make a card's book value decline and get the down arrow next to it?

I have a decent john wall #/d relic that got the down arrow recently on its book value. He's playing well so I feel that would increase his value if anything, but obviously not in this case. It doesn't seem like overall there is a drop in john wall cards, so what would make this particular card in this series decrease? With more series coming out and more wall cards being pumped out, I see how supply may decrease value but wouldn't that be more universal and not specific to this particular series?

Overproduction and the set may lack popularity are some reasons.

If yours isn't a rookie card it probably just dropped in value because there is a glut of post rookie year game used for people to choose from. Plus it doesn't seem like Wall is the "it" new player in the league anymore. I don't know who is but John Wall was talked about on Sportscenter all the time when he first came into the league. He's playing better now but the national news doesn't seem to care for him as much.

The new "it" player is Steph Curry.

Jersey cards have pretty much lost all value these days. Unless it's from an NBA licensed Exquisite, Flawless or of a superstar player like MJ, it won't be worth much.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to Beckett prices either.

Yeah GU cards are pretty much worthless unless its a kobe, LBJ, MJ, or a patch piece.

Thanks for the responses. being fairly new to the hobby, the game used jerseys were all new and pretty cool to me since all I really knew were early 90's baseball cards from when I was a kid. Took a little while until I realized how many of them there are and how they're not that rare at all. I'm also seeing that price trends don't necessarily correlate with quality of play. Still enjoying collecting and the whole process so far though.

I still think jersey cards are neat. They are pieces actually worn by the player. It's just one of those things where the supply has now greatly surpassed the demand, unfortunately. With 82 games in a season, photo shoots, playoffs, and the whole deal, it's easy to chop up enough little pieces of them and adhere them to a small piece of cardboard.

Finally, you are right about the price trends in many instances. The hobby, along with the media, likes to promote hype and possibility over current and past reality. Ten to twenty years from now, Kyrie Irving's cards will be of no more interest to the standard twentysomething consumer than Isiah Thomas' are today. It's all quite silly, but I've learned most people are not particularly analytic by nature. I don't see them ever really thinking about this and becoming more reasonable about "hype."
