If you read further down you do come across a more tangible reason for the "ban". They say to do so (build snowmen) you are imitating actions of the "infidels" because apparently infidels have been having fun building snowmen for centuries.

Regardless of the reasoning, you will find the "faithful" agreeing whole-heartily with the decisions of their chosen ones.
