Vintage Help!
I am a bit young considering some of the cards that I am trying to find as of late. It is a fun new way for me to focus on the hobby though. I figure it is my best shot at chasing history. I know how condition works for new stuff and recent sets, but I have been going after pretty much any HOF RC that I can get my hands on in football, basketball, or baseball. Several from the 70's and 80's and even have my eyes on some from earlier. I understand that cards through the years have been beaten up and are harder to find in good condition. I know that centering is a big thing as well as the better condition the better as always. I keep seeing graded ones and they may be only like a 4 or 5 (psa or beckett, are the ones I'm trusting). I guess the part that I am unfamiliar with is what generation of cards is this a fair number, or is that a low grade regardless. How do I know what is solid to pickup and what I should pass on? Is there a scale to follow, or any kind of rule to follow based on a grade to year? I have been passing on anything creased and been staying away from as many "soft corners" as possible, but understand that with time corners are "condition sensitive". Today's cards need to have sharp glass cutting corners, but what is the equivalent of say a Walter Payton RC?
