    Discounted Cases / Reprinting

This has probably been discussed before, but what is everyone's opinion on the integrity of heavily discounted cases or boxes from years prior ? I've always assumed that all those cases on Contenders and Anthology were/are old inventory that is being sold to large sellers to be moved. I just opened 2 cases of Panini Classics that have me thinking otherwise, that Panini may be continuing to print product and that product although heavily discounted is in fact less quality in terms of available hits.

Reason I say this is my two cases had mostly the same hits including doubles of a few low numbered cards. What are the odds of getting a Sakic NN /50 and a Beezer/Melanby /100 in back to back cases. I only hit 3 SP's in 24 boxes as well. Also only had 3 redemption over the 24 boxes.

I can accept that I got a few bad cases but am wondering if these cases of Classics that are showing up everywhere are cards that were printed long after the first run and use whatever stock Panini had on hand.

Not that I have any history buying old product but... IMO I'm done buying Panini products. I've opened 10 boxes this year and have garbage cards... I will in the future only buy Upper Deck products. Only thing I may purchase in the future is NT but that is a long shot.

Panini has always had collation issues.

I don't know how a person can reasonably think that they're not only still running the presses but also still collecting autographs. LOL

You also have to remember that a lot of these products had very high price points when they were released. Most were well north of $100 and they just weren't selling. Classics Signatures was a prime example of that, as it was originally in a mid-to-high end price point. People weren't buying. And now that it's been a couple years, that stuff has to go.

Yeah there was collation issues in Classics I had 2 boxes in the same case that had the EXACT same base auto's , just different sub-set auto's , but not really complaining cause I got good value at the reduced price point

I actually think Classics is great value, 144+ on card autos in 2 cases and tons of HOF's. Must just be a collation issue + some bad luck.

The last case of Classics I busted had a decent return of over 80%, and most of the scrub autos were sold in lots. I don't think Panini gives two sheets about hockey these days so firing up the printers probably did not happen. Just my opinion.

RGM said it best, they can't print hard-signed autos :P

Upper Deck S1/2 are very heavily printed. Short Printed Young Guns from 10+ years ago can sell for more than their Exclusives Parallels.

Classics was waaaay over-priced when it first came out so I think there is just a lot on the shelf still. It is a good set though with the checklist.

Fair enough guys, that makes sense. Was very surprised how hard the SP's are to hit, would be interesting to know approximately what the print run on the SP and SSP's is. I am going to try and put together the set but considering the set is a few years old now and a few of the SSP's have come up once or twice, should be a set that takes a while.

Does anyone have the full checklist including cards released in other issues?

Not sure if they cards released in other products that were not signed on time are there. There is an 'expansion set' listed there but don't know if those are autos.

I know there was someone here recently selling off an entire 11-12 Private Signings set so I would assume eventually someone will do the same with this set.

Also it is estimated the XSP from private signings was /15-/20 so maybe SSPs would be /25-/40 though I am just speculating
