Canadiens have sent rookie winger Jiri Sekac to Anaheim for Devante Smith-Pelly.

I hope that DSP can really put his stamp on the club. Har-dee-har-har.

Now, how about Jiri Sekac? Several teams were interested in the Czech winger, who came to the NHL as a free agent last summer. He was a healthy scratch for the second game in a row on Monday. Would Bergevin re-visit those clubs who lost out to Montreal?

Damn! That's an intriguing trade.. I liked Sekac.. Maybe now I can pick up an SPx rookie for under $10 :D

I guess that means Therrien's latest experiment with putting Galchenyuk on the right wing will be short lived. Which is good.

That was Subban and Plekanec. Because the media loves its narrative about "nobody on the Habs likes PK."

Unless there was a different one.

The fact that they were making Sekac a healthy scratch lately showed that he was in Therrien's dog house for whatever reason. It's a shame to see him go after such a great start to his season.

I like the pick-up for Montreal. Obviously I don't know exactly what Mon needs but DSP has some size and is a physical player and can put up some points. I wouldn't have minded if the Pens picked up a guy like this.

Sherback was designed to take the place of Sekac. Hockey is not about skating fast and jungling with the puck, what is Sekac was doing all the time.

This trade justifies itself perfectly from a habs fan point of view. I'd take DSP playoff time (even if there's a scandal with some of his sig cards from spx).

Those Europe sensations are over-written and we have good depth in here.

Habs still are very messy (I know about their first place in standings...) and it was the right time to get this kind of player; he will have to adapt to Therrien's game of plan, with is basic simple. He relies hevily on the assistant-coaches to find the best of each player and it's what is working. It's still a very unsure team. It's always like Pacioretty scoring from a swift shot (because he never will make one slap shot, mom told him to practice in a little piece), and after that Price gives kind of one goal and Desharnais will eventually score. Because Desharnais is one of the few who know how to play hockey. At his tall, it's his intelligence of the game that made him what he his now. Like all the others in fact.

Have to admit that I am sad to see Sekac go as I think he is going to end up doing really well in the future. However, Devante S-P is going to be a really good bottom six right winger come playoff time (Weise should be the other bottom six right winger). At 22 years of age, this guy can be kept around for a few more years as he will be a RFA after the end of next season. By then, Gallagher and Scherbak will be your top six right wingers as PA Parenteau will be gone. I think Bergevin is doing a great job for not only this year but the future with this trade.
