The Cup ARTIST PROOFS
I saw this auction on EBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/13-14-The-Cup-ARTIST-PROOF-HONORABLE-NUMBER-Jonathan-Huberdeau-Brendan-Gallagher-/261788871110?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cf3d5 29c6
Does anyone have any info on ARTIST PROOFS from The Cup? Are they legit? How were they distribuited? PRs? etc?
If they are supposedly limited, how does one guy get 100 of them?SHARKS and CAPITALS Fan +++ Tomas Hertl cards: 512 & counting Hidden Content ...... Hidden Content

Most if not all artist proofs are from the uncut sheet redemptions.

They are legit. They are redemptions inserted into The Cup. These are the entire "uncut sheet". 1 produced per set for this redemption. A lot of people go and get them professionally cut so they can sell the individual card.

I have never bought any of these cut "un-cut" sheet cards, but I have been tempted. There are many Cup cards that I will never be able to afford and these proofs are a lower cost alternative.
Keep in mind. These are not cards, and are not Cup stock. They are photo sheets with blank backs. Many sellers explain this fact in their auctions, but some do not.Hidden Content

Others have already said it, but I'll just add to it....
They are not pack inserted cards, but rather redemptions for uncut sheets that have been redeemed, and then the sheet has been cut up. Not everyone's cup of tea, but some people like them (and there has to be enough people that want them, as there are several sellers that keep doing it).
I own a few, most notably a Ranford / Cheevers dual honorable numbers from The Cup. Why is it the most notable one? Because the real card was never made.

I hate these things, just clog up ebay searches. Any search I do that has the chance of returning Cup cards has -proof at the end so I don't see 200 of these mixed in.

I finally got one myself as a "bonus" to my team collection. Thing to note:
- they are regular card stock, not the thick type that Cup cards typically are
- they are larger than a regular card size. So it can't be put into a page, a sleeve or a one-touch. It might fit into a top loader, I haven't checked.
- the backs are blank
The size thing might have been an error on the part of the guy who got the sheet cut, I'm not sure. The only reason why I'd think "maybe not" is because I have a card that was cut from a Pacific sheet that is larger than the actual card that came in a pack.

So, they're just as thin as your standard old-school base card?

Personally I think the cards are worthless. Would have been much better framed as a sheet. I have never been even remotely tempted to buy one.
