2011-2012 prime printing plate variations

I am wondering how many variations of Printing plates are there for these cards. I picked up two of Matt Frattin the Yellow and megenta one and I am thinking of trying to chase down the others but I dont know how many there are so if anyone knows I would owe ya one.

First of all, its a great day when you get that fourth one in the mail. So I highly encourage it if you have the means.



Here are a few clues:
- Start looking as soon as the product comes out. If one of them sells before you start looking, you'll probably never see it again. If your card was released in this year's or last year's sets, then maybe you still have a chance.
- Search EBay REGULARLY. Make a customized search to alert you, but contantly look yourself for variations of your search terms. Be very broad in your search terms because you cant always rely on the seller posting exactly what he has (or even posting it correctly). I simply searched for "Hertl" and "plate".
- Dont get discouraged. I found the first two within 3 days of each other, and that is what gave me the idea. I found the third one about three weeks later. Those were all in my hands for about 6 months now. Then last week, I spotted it after not seeing anything for the past half year.
- Don't let out how anxious you are for a particular plate. Especially, dont tell somebody that has the 4th plate that is the one you are missing, and his would make your set complete. Unless you really trust them, they probably wont feel for you and give you a break. More probably, they will realize they have you over a rock, and the price just doubled.
- When you get the fourth, bask in the glory and self-satisfaction of a job well done...

Thanks I am defently trying to use those tips in tracking the last two down. The weird thing on this one is that the plates almost seem to issued in a differnt panini product then what the cards were made for so I am not sure if that would effect it or not. but thanks for the tips and hopefully I can track it down someday and get it complete

Yes, many (most) of the Panini printing plates were released in National Treasures last year. I am not sure if plates are ever released in the actual products that they made because I think they usually keep them for awhile before disposing of the plates. But I only started collecting plates last year, so somebody that has been doing it longer would probably know better.

Maybe thats just how Panini does it because I am pretty sure topps and upper deck usually put them in the same product but I could be wrong on that.

No you are correct. Topps does it for all their sets. Upper Deck does it for the regular set, then they also will put plates from their other sets in The Cup.

However, some years (I forget which ones) UD may have had 8 plates per card, rather than 4. I recall someone finding two black plates of some card.
