As a Latin-American I feel I can speak out on what Raven said.

#1 Unlike whites and Blacks, the overwhelming majority of Latins are a mixed race, usually white and "indian", but also black and "indian".

This is why Latins literally come in every imaginable color, from very white to very black....most of them are in the middle though, usually a tan color.

#2 I very much agree with Raven, Latins are indeed racist, just like every other race, however, just like every other race, it is more predominant with the older folks.

#3 Probably more sad is that within the Latin community there is racism and xenophobia with EACH OTHER!

One thing I never do around other Latins is tell them my origin country (where my parents were born), because some of them have bad blood.

And some of them take offense when a young Latin says he is "American".....this again is predominant with older folks.

And yes, I have seen white Latins discriminate against tan and black Latins.... It is truly disgraceful.

Wow this was out of blue

Nearly a week following the dismissal of Univision host Rodner Figueroa for comparing Michelle Obama's appearance to someone from the cast of the “Planet of the Apes,” the Emmy Award-winner’s comments were among a selection of hot topics on Monday’s episode of “The View.”
During the show’s segment, which featured Raven-Symoné as a guest host, co-host Rosie Perez said Figueroa's comment exposed a secret in the Latin community that stems from Latinos' reluctance to recognize that “African blood” is embedded within their ancestry.
“There is a secret in the Latin community, specifically the Caribbean, South American, Central American Latin community. They are very racist,” Perez said. “They never want to be in the same group as black people. And it’s very, very sad. And he did say Michelle Obama looked like a cast member of the ‘Planet of the Apes.'”
Raven-Symoné, however, questioned whether Figueroa’s intent was “racist-like” since he admitted to voting for President Barack Obama in both elections. Perez disagreed.
“I am the Latin person here on this table and I would like to tell you that it was racist, period,” she declared. “And the thing is this is a problem in the Latin community that we do not talk about. That we do not address. And it is real and it was revealed by this man’s statement. And you do not disrespect the first lady of our country.”
The “That's So Raven” star quickly interjected by saying, “Some people look like animals. I look like a bird. So can I be mad if somebody calls me a Toucan Sam?”

Secret? Maybe to fools who know nobody and only get their world views from the TV or something. Lots of people hate other people. You have tensions inside of Asians on where they are from. Same with Hispanics. Black people from Africa and the Caribbean hate on black Americans. Blacks and Asians have animosity among one another in some places. People from India have a strong dislike for people with black skin or are Muslim from my experience. Not saying everyone does but if you travel enough or encounter enough people this really shouldn't be a surprise.

THere is tension everywhere. It is only news worthy when it is white on black per say or insulting the black culture.

Furthermore, do you REALLY think it's the same reading comments on the internet as opposed to someone saying something face to face?

It should be the same. I get it's easier to be more open when writing versus speaking for me at least at time, but why would you say something online that you wouldn't say to the person if you were face to face having the same discussion. I get that there can be a disconnect when you are just typing online, but the words can be just as impactful whether you're face to face or online, even if you are conversing with someone you've never met in person.
