Vatanen FWA question
What is going on with these?
http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_nkw=v..._dmd=1&_ipg=50
$80-90 US seems crazy? I had heard people think they're short printed or something but they're /999 no? Going for close to Tarasenko $.
I have one redeemed but it's been that way for some time. Maybe he'll never sign?
Is the used redemption worth something to set collectors if he doesn't?
Any help is appreciated!

Future Watch redemptions always go for pretty good money. Set builders often get worried that the product will dry up and that there are fewer of these inserted into the product due to the uncertainty as to whether they'll be produced/signed/returned. For a lot of years, Tuukka Rask redemptions were a hot ticket because people just didn't know if the cards would ever go live and prices definitely reflected that. Now that they've been live and things have settled you can get those cards for quite a bit less than when they were just a redemption. It's all about the uncertainty factor and whether a set will ever be able to be completed.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Recent history tells us that Future Watch redemptions have a good chance of being short printed, it's happened a fair bit since 2005-06. Set collectors know this and pay more to secure redemptions, and there may also be some "investors" taking the gamble on a card that could be tough to find once it goes live.
My theory is that bigger name redemptions (MacKinnon, Tarasenko) have large numbers seeded in, if not entire print runs, but the lesser players would be the ones who have their numbers cut if UD packs out the product and realizes they have an abundance of autos left over. If it was me, I would be doing the same. Get all the live content in first, get the big name redemptions in second, then round out the product with lesser name redemptions even if it means there's only room in the product to seed say 30% of the print run.
2013-14 SPA has been out long enough now that buyers have a good idea which cards are less common than others and prices paid reflect that. Even relatively no-name players, who would be $5 cards if they were live since day one, sell good in these cases.
Im just glad I only paid $30 a piece for my two Tarasenko redemptions, especially now that his prices have shot up to almost $100 and he's showing signs of getting the rest of his cards signed.
