    All good questions to ponder.

I think you could start with Presidential elections and see how that goes. Do you have civics classes in your high schools? That may be a start to educating voters. I think campaign financing reform with spending limits could address limiting the TV ads and also may encourage people with less means to run for office. You could also encourage voters to want to vote by requiring a "none of the above" as a choice on the ballot.

We had a government class in high school. Seniors had to take it for two semesters I believe. I'm not sure if this is still the case in Indiana. I think focus on the system in high school would help raise awareness and get young people possibly interested.

I'm all for campaign finance reform as well. I'd also toss in term limits for every elected official.

It would be interesting if they added a "none of the above" even in the current system.

When I hear mandatory voting coming out of the mouth of a member of Chicago Political Machine my fears turn immediately to voter fraud.

What are your concerns that mandatory voting would lead to voter fraud? I'd think if they had mandatory voting we'd have to have more stringent tracking of voters.

Yes, there are a lot of things they could be teaching that they aren't.

Definitely! I think teaching more practical things would be much more beneficial to kids. Not that there aren't kids that need to have more advanced topics available but maybe classes like personal finance or car maintenance would give kids some additional valuable life skills that maybe their parents can't teach them.
