Kevin Durant done for the year?
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12...all-activities
Kevin Durant has been "removed from basketball activities" and could be shut down for the season, Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti announced Friday.
"He's not making the progress we'd hoped or expected," Presti said.
When asked whether Durant was being shut down for the season, Presti said, "Essentially, that's the direction we're headed right now."

If Durant won't play again this season, I'd much rather watch AD and the Pelicans go up against the Warriors than Westbrook and OKC.

Hope he makes a swift recovery from his injuries and hopefully comes back in the playoffs.

Durant will have his third surgery on his foot this season and now is officially out for both the regular season and playoffs, the team announced Friday.
Ouch!

Is the Jones fracture similar to what troubled Yao Ming? If so, then KD has to take his time with this one. Hope his recovery goes well. This season has been a joke in terms of injuries.

Tell me about it! I've followed the game since 1993, and I cannot remember a year anywhere close to this in terms of injuries. It's happening to stars, supporting players, and on teams that are contenders and teams that aren't. Some blogger tried to tell me the injuries were all about tanking, but that's untrue - Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant, Paul George, Anderson Varejao, and others have sustained significant injuries, and they were all on playoff and otherwise contending teams. Spurs have had guys out, too. It's almost unreal.

Yeah I'm not buying that as the reason for the injuries either. If he would have said steroids, shoes, new wood flooring, etc I could maybe see it but these guys aren't getting hurt to tank they are getting hurt on good teams.
I wonder if this will give more leverage to the players who have been whining about the season and playoffs being too long. The NBA isn't going to want players to play for 50 games in the meaningless regular season to get hurt and miss the playoffs. If the NBA playoffs are filled with injury replacement scrubs nobody is going to watch.

I actually wouldn't be averse to a shorter season. I think football has it right in this regard. Basketball, hockey, and especially baseball all have especially long seasons by comparison. At the rate pros train today, can their bodies really handle that much strain? Not sure what the optimal level is, but some reduction in the total amount couldn't hurt that much, IMO.
