    HELP! I need somebody!

Can someone give me the basics on collecting cards? I just bought a box from UPPER DECK(UD 2014/2015 Series 1)... What's next? I'm new to this whole thing and I've been reading as much as possible but this is all so much to take in lol. Should I be continually buying the same box from UPPER DECK? Is that how I increase my chances of getting the cards I need? SOMEONE HELP!

    1. Cut a hole in the box.
    2. Pull the junk outta that box.
    3. Make your girl open the box.

And that's what you do after you buy a box of cards.

You can generally get a pretty good idea of what's popular, what's good and what's not good, by browsing through some of the forums here. Some guys are more helpful than others. You'll learn this as you go. LOL

You can continually buy the same boxes but that won't really get you the cards you need without spending a fortune. What exactly are you looking for? I assume Devils. Base cards? Inserts? Autos? Memorabilia? Any particular player?

Opening a box or two is good for fun, but collectors who are going after certain cards only usually go through eBay, COMC, here, other trading sites etc..........

More info would help greatly :D

Buying boxes is fastest way to lose money...
Ok once in a while for fun....

Go on ebay/comc and see what you like in your price range. ..
You'd be surprised what nice cards you can buy for $20-$40..

I must be dreaming but..... I agree!

TO get your collection started. I would to ebay pick up some cards of players you like. If you want to get traders then pick up Autos of guys like Tavares, Stamkos, Malkin, Ovechkin, Lundqvist, Kopitar, Taylor Hall ect... All can be got for $30 or less and almost everybody would be interested in them. That way you have traders that people want if you want to trade.

Like Kuba said If you keep opening boxes you will usually lose money and wont get too far as far as getting cards you actually want.

Its not a bad idea to open a couple boxes but you will get most of your cards from here or ebay.

Something I didn't do when I got back into collecting after my long hiatus...and it's a really good idea...browse completed sales on ebay for cards you like to get a feel for the value. Price guides may not give you an accurate idea of the true value, and you can easily drop $20 on a card and think you got a great deal, just to realize it only sells for $5. Been there.

Have you tried putting list of traders and a want list together? If not give it a try and post it to the trader page. You may get some of the cards you want without having to spend more money.
I will consider buying cards from my want list for the right price.

If you're just getting into it..... I would suggest spending some time, and look through trade threads, eBay, UD's website (or another manufacturer) and see what's out there. Gauge what it is you like.

Want Rookie Cards? Autographs? A specific player? One team? Sets? There's lots of different ways to collect: Pick what it is you like, figure out your budget, and stick to both.
