This is about trading. It is about two people diagreeing on a valuation of a card. Because ebay is tangentially involved doesnt make it a diatribe about ebay.

Money, money, money, why is it always about money? Why is it a day's pay to sit in the cheap seats? Why is there so much greed? What the hell went wrong?

right, you made it personal.
Not sure what it's truly about but I suspect jealousy in largely involved.
You go your way I'll go mine - an ne'er the twain shall meet

Your signature is a comment on how you value cards. And you are going to preach about why is it always about money? You can't make this stuff up.

I've been in the hobby for 25 years as a collector and see no reason to trade cards. PP and Ebay make buying and selling so freakin easy it makes very little sense to try and crank a trade out.
And forums in general are dying off.

The 13% in fees to sell on ebay is kind of a lot when the cards get up over the $50 range. Trading is a nice way to avoid that.

Simply put, I think most of the people (notice how I said most, not all) looking to sell, or mainly selling, are people with a lot of skin in the game. BV'ers, less so, though please correct me if I'm wrong.
I've recently bought cases of Ultimate Vault, Superlative Vault and 6 boxes of Masterpieces. That's a lot of $. If I want to continue to break, I need to re-coup a bunch of cash.
Because I sell a fair amount (not nearly enough though lol) I get a good idea about the SV of cards, and there is often times a disconnect in the BV vs SV. So for me it's about preserving SV should I need to move a card.
I wouldn't call that greed. I've invested a lot of money into the hobby and likely lost money most of the time. It's a hobby not my job.
There are people on both sides that give various people a bad name. I've been offered $100 on a easy $350 SV lot and I no longer respond to messages or threads of that member. Likewise I wouldn't trade a Butch Bouchard Brown Border Masterpieces auto @ $30 BV for another BV $30 card because the Bouchard it "worth" more (a quick search of Ebay can tell me that).
On the flip side of the coin, there are people on here who are very easy to deal with, and who are willing to listen to why I wouldn't be comfortable making a certain deal.
As an example, I did a deal with "theboxbreaker" where I traded him a Monahan Ultimate Rookie auto /99 for $80 and a Jacques Plante Superlative Vault Retired Fabrics Gold 1/1 (Ruby Stamp). The Monahan sells @ $130 which he agreed to. I gave him SV credit of $50 on the Plante (High I thought but I wanted to get a deal done).
I didn't "make" money on the deal, so I don't think I'm greedy. We both got a card we wanted and I got some $ to even up the deal. No BV was used. Basically if people are reasonable and respectful of what each are comfortable with, deals can be made.
I don't mean to offend, but my experience with "only trade by BV" traders is they're far less open to being accommodating. Part of that may be that most of them are PC'ers/set builders. If they're picking up a card they're happy to pay the shipping involved in a trade because they want that card/cards.
High end collectors/sellers tend to trade less IMO because they're only willing to pay the shipping if the card they get in return justifies the expense of the trade.
Both sides make sense, and are justified in their opinions.
I'm slightly different. I'm a box breaker. I like opening packs. Sure, I collect but mainly it takes me back to being a kid with my dad, and now that I have boys of my own I'm passing on the fun/economically crushing tradition.
Anyway, differences aside, I think we can all agree that we love cards, we love hockey, and we all have the best of hopes for the hobby.
