I think the problem is that a lot of people don't actually watch Senators games. Both years that Karlsson has won the Norris, he was playing great on both ends (this year was probably his best season defensively). The seasons in between the Norris wins, he wasn't great defensively. Poor decisions, slow reaction time, etc.

As for plus minus, it's not always a great indicator of talent. Out of the top 10 defensemen in the league in plus minus, only Ryan McDonagh (5th) and PK Subban (10th) could legitimately be called top defencemen. If you go down to top 20, you even find perennial all-stars Kevan Miller, David Rundblad, and Matt Hunwick in the mix.

Honestly, I think Weber and Karlsson both played well enough to earn the Norris this year. Whether points or east-coast bias played a role, who knows. But to say Karlsson is basically a fourth forward who is useless on the back end is to say that you haven't really watched the guy play this year.

    honestly...should have been Shea Weber

With the exception of the Calder...... it's hard to win a trophy when you don't make the playoffs.

I think I watched exactly zero Senators games this year, so I'm not going to comment on Karlsson winning. If the voters thought he was the best, I won't argue.

How many points the dman gets.... it's always been a big factor. If you look at the history of the Norris trophy... I recall looking all of this up a year or two ago (for the same reason) and there are very few times since 1967 (I picked post-Origional 6 as the cut off time) that anyone has won a Norris Trophy, and not been in the top 3 Point totals amoung dmen. It happens the odd time, but it's rare.

These sum up my feelings on the matter.
