    Cool Hello from Ottawa

    Hello all,

I am a complete noobie to the whole card collecting thing. I have a 7 year old boy who likes collecting hockey cards since I started bribing him for daily reading practice (1 story = 1 card). I bought couple boxes of Upper Deck 2014-15 cards and now I want to see him finishing the set as well as trading some myself.

I came from a country far far away (by the Baltic sea) so growing up we did not have this obsession with cards (we actually collected Turkish chewing gum inserts, like Turbo eg. https://guminserts.wordpress.com/01-..._turbo_51-120/ and what not). I remember my dad got me a couple packs of soccer cards when I was in my teens, but 1) it was an exception since those cards were purchased on his business trip and 2) no one else had them, so trading and collecting was not an option. 3) I was too old to get into it, but mostly 1) Anyway I digress...

I am looking to learn more about collecting cards, trading some and just having good time while adding to my hobbies :)

I am not sure how trading works here, so I guess I will try poking around the site a bit more as yesterday many areas seemed to me closed to me while my account was being reviewed. So any help is appreciated :)

    Anyway, thanks for having me,
    Tadas

    Welcome to the site!

Trading is as easy as finding somebody that has something you want and then finding something they will want from you. Probably would be easier to make a deal with somebody from Canada than somebody in the US or Europe but if you are willing to pay the extra postage a deal can easily be had with those collectors as well.

Thanks piper1, I will try to drop in with all my ~50 tradables in hand :) is there a website or notification board somewhere about those shows? Just to get a rough idea what I am looking at and what times.

OK, I have another newbie question then :)
I got a couple boxes of UD 2014-15 Series 1 and 2 cards. They contain some more rare cards in there like Young Guns, etc.
Are those regular/plain/vanilla series 1 and 2 cards (1-200) of any value at all or are they just fill-ins for the real deal Young Guns, Hockey legends, Canvas and so on cards... How to determine the value/rarity of the cards of any series or series within series?
    Thanks

You can check out the Ottawa show at this link: www.capitaltradeshows.com

If you bring your cards out someone should there should be able to explain to you what you have. I hope to get there early in the morning but will likely only stay for about one hour.
