Upper Deck replacements w/ no serial numbering

is this a common practice for upper deck to replace serial numbered cards with one that isn't serial numbered? I am in negotiations to buy a card that the owner says is a replacement and doesn't have a serial number. It is graded by Beckett and I would assume if it was a counterfeit they would not have slabbed it. Will I have trouble re-selling this card when the time comes?

Beckett doesn't check for authenticity on graded cards (I've seen tales of fake patch cards get graded) - they will only authenticate a card if it is requested.

I haven't heard tale of replacements for numbered cards coming back with non-numbered versions. As I understand it usually their practice is to either re-stamp the card with the same S# or to hand-number with the same number so as to clearly distinguish that it's a replacement.

What is the card? Is it typically numbered when packed-pulled?

UD has had hand numbered replacements for almost 15 years now. This is nothing new. The odd unnumbered one slips out. I have a few in my collection

It is a crosby ultimate rookies. Typically numbered. Obviously an expensive card, so that is why I am concerned

I wouldn't touch it personally. Obviously that I wouldn't know if its real and you would have a real hard time getting rid of it (if need be). I have no idea if its real or not but I definitely wouldn't be buying one unless I was 100% sure

If it was something like a Crosby Ultimate Auto Rookie ..... I would not buy it and it will for sure effect the value of the card
