The hobby is still fun even though I don't buy too many packs because of the outragious prices. I usually buy packs that are a few years old since they're discounted in price. I've been shopping on Ebay for the past few years concentrating on Giants and 49ers only and get the thrill of unopening the packages I've won and seeing what kind of cards are in there. Also when I'm searching for cards others need, I get to revisit my old cards. Also the hobby is a way of getting away from work and the kids.

For me, it's the thrill of the hunt. A lot of people don't like the jersey cards, because they think it's sacrilege to cut up an old jersey worn by Babe Ruth, or to chop up one of DiMaggio's bats. But I think it's rather a neat concept. In no way, shape or form, would I ever be able to afford to purchase a jersey worn by Babe Ruth on the collectible market. But through a $10 pack, I was able to pull a Ruth bat/jersey combo (with Gehrig's bat and jersey on the other side).

I think the market's being over-run with the GU craze, and I think it's going to hurt the market (and it's already starting to damage the 'value' of the cards). But it's the chase, really.

Buying wax boxes is fun, if you buy for the right reasons. I buy wax for one of 3 reasons:

    1) I like the look of the cards, and I think I'd like to complete the set.

    2) The set contains older players, and I'd really like to see if I can pull that elusive Sandy Koufax autographed jersey. (For example).

    3) I need some trade bait, and the box was really, really cheap. I mean, hey, if I can buy a box of cards from D&A Cardworld for $40, and pull a few inserts and maybe a jersey, which I can trade for something I want, I'll do it.

Seems like a few of you here like base cards. If you have a particular team, let me know. I have about 50-100 of each team.

i love trading for these reasons

it brings back memories of people i have traded with and even though i am 18 it seems like a long time ago..

something to do that doesnt waste gas or get me into any more trouble...

i enjoy opening the packages every day in the mail to see what came today

i love busting packs which i know i just wasted money on but really dont care

my maggs auto numbered to 5 makes up for the next 100 dollars i will spend but the maggs is not for trade or anything unless you offer me a thousand dollars or trade your car for it... thanks and have a nice day

i love collecting though and while many people say im not spending money because you can get that one card online for 20 bucks but what about the rest of the cards.... i am happy opening a pack and funding mark buerle because he is a white sox playa and that is what i wanted... sure gu/auto/numbered is nice but if you love the hobby you love more than money
