Thought - Game Worn Team Mega Patch Logo
As I was looking through the preview for Black Diamond yesterday, and saw this beauty of a thing:

It got me thinking about UD possibly doing that with an actual game-worn logo.
Would you be interested in collecting that type of mega patch, knowing it was game worn, but not player-specific?
We all hear the slogan, "It's not about the name on the back, but they play for the logo on the front."
If UD were to put out a subset featuring non-player-specific game-worn material like that, would you like it? Would you pursue putting together the pieces? Would you pay more or less for it than you would if it were player-specific?
Discuss.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I wouldn't want it as I prefer when the player on the card has worn that jersey. I would however collect a leafs logo card like the one mentioned above if it were manufactured patches and featured different players. It reminds me of oilers collection with the team logo

Here's a pic of the Oilers collection cards:

Would I be more inclined to have collected that if it used an actual logo from a game used jersey (rather an a manufactured patch) ?? Probably not. Instead of something that was fairly obtainable (the last couple of cards were hard to find, because I needed specific pieces of specific players) but if you simply diced up one logo, and made one set of cards, there's little chance that any person could complete it.
I'm also reminded of cards like this... there's a piece of GU jersey in them, but not the logo:

Lots of stuff they can do with Logos, that make for cool cards. Those Habs ones at the top - if you've got 9 players.... do something smart like make 9 copies of each logo piece with each player. Means that every piece exists 81 times, and every player has 81 cards made. Want to do a logo with all Carey Price cards? Go for it. Want to do do one that has one of each player? Do that too. (This is how the Oilers collection worked. I finished that logo using 1 piece from each player. I'm still working on a second one that uses only Bill Ranford).
It would make things challenging, but not impossible.
If UD is going to buy a GU jersey, and dice it up for cards, I'd rather they made GU cards of that player.

I like the idea of a chase system... to complete the logo must feel good. I think there should be a clear and honest distinction between game used (none of that photo-shoot business) and non-game used.
I like the idea of the team logos a lot. I would even go so far as to buy higher quality logos to put in the cards (does Upper Deck shop at the dollar store?!). It would be cool to see vintage versions of the logo (compelte with vintage materials) used for classic HHOF or franchise players.

So basically a Panini Prime Colors but with different players on each of the cards?
Yeah I think I would pass on that. If any of the companies cut up a Datsyuk jersey I expect it to be used on a Datsyuk card, I have no interest in picking up a card with a piece of Datsyuk jersey and a picture of Kyle Quincey or Brendan Smith.

Must have missed that part.
To me that just makes it even sillier, I'd have zero interest in a card that's not attributed to any player at all.

Here's the thing though.... if it was a logo from a game worn jersey, then someone did wear it. I get what you're saying - it's about the crest on the front, not the name on the back - so if you chopped up a Habs Game Worn Jersey (the logo) into 12 pieces, you could make 12 cards, of 12 different players, certify that it's a game used piece..... but don't say who that player is. Doesn't matter.
Wait, or do you mean picture no player (and no name) on the card, and just make it a GU Montreal Logo card? (I was thinking you meant to make cards similar to what was at the top of the picture.... but maybe not?)
I don't know. I mean, maybe that's a good way to use up the Scott Gomez Montreal Jerseys.... because there is nobody else trying to buy them otherwise.... but I would think if you're UD, and you buy a player's GU jersey - you're buying that to make cards of that player, not random player (or no-name) cards.

Yeah I think it's a good opportunity for UD to clear out some of that type of inventory. I'm sure they have them for every team. Guys that were supposed to be a big hit and never panned out or were traded or UD just never got around to utilizing the logo patch for some reason.

I think it would just be an attempt for UD to charge more for cards than they should. The vast majority of people would assume that they were worn by the pictured player, so UD could get away with charging more even though the crest was off a jersey that was a throw in with all the other good jerseys. It would be an insincere attempt to fool people into believing something that it isn't -- just like SPGU putting out stuff that isn't game worn. ("Well, we never said it was game worn [in the tiny black type of the back], even though our brand title is SP GAME USED.")
It's not our job to save UD money -- even though people really bought into the "Buyback" set, which was ridiculous. Frankly, if a card has a player's picture along with a jersey or autograph, it should come from that player because that is what everyone assumes when they see it. What's next? Autograph cards signed by someone else? "Well, all we said it that it was autographed. We didn't actually say it was signed by the player on the card..." No thanks.
