So I'm working on a 1989Topps Baseball Set and I need some suggestions on whether I should do just the regular cards to get signed or the traded cards. Suggestions?

Make the decision and stick with it. I started a set of 1997 Fleer baseball cards back in 1997. Didn't even realize there was an update set until I had been working on it a few years and decided against doing the update set. Over the years there have been players I could have gotten on the update set and I always wondered if I should have done that also. I have 332/500 from that set signed, all in person. Last spring training I got Alex Rodriguez, who was the last active player I needed. There are a bunch of coaches, managers, minor league instructors, etc. in the set and once in a while I get a couple of those guys at fantasy camps or interleague play.

If you're just starting, I'd say go for the update set also.

Which ones do you have so far? Are you going to do in-person, via mail, etc? I made a rule when I started that all of mine had to be in-person and I would not pay for a specific individual player. I have paid to attend events with multiple players who I needed but haven't done any deals where I paid a specific amount for a player. Several years ago when I got to the 300 mark, I figured maybe I had an outside chance at 350.

I'm going to try to do in person and ttm. For the players that are deceased I'm will then buy there auto from someone who is trusted. Also I wouldn't pay a lot of money to meet them and just get the card signed unless they don't sign ttm or they are get hard to get out of paid signings.

Some guys may be on a card in the regular set and in the update set. This website has a list of addresses with success rates of tons of players, so you can use that as a good reference.
