What's the difference (Upper Deck Artifacts)?
My son started collecting Upper Deck Artifacts cards and I noticed the majority of them are SILVER, but then he's got cards that appear to be duplicates (same card number), but are RED and GREEN.
Is there a difference between them all ? Are the RED/GREEN ones more valuable than the others?
Thanks...

Welcome to Parallel city.
Simply put, different versions of the same card. Red, Green, Blue, Gold, Black... what am I missing guys.
It gives collectors a wide range of collecting possibilities

Further to that last response they all have different print runs and yes some colours are rarer than others. For example your green cards should be numbered out of 99 and is rarer than your ruby parallel, so it is more valuable if they are both the same player.

Perfect, thanks so much!
So I'll make sure my son doesn't toss them as duplicates then...

Just to add to this.... because Artifacts can be a lot of fun (or a real lack of fun, depending on your perspective) I took a look at the SCF Inventory, looked up a veteran player (rather than a rookie)... used Crosby:

If you only look at the Serial Numbered cards, and no memorabilia cards (because they exist as parallels of the base card too) here's what you get:
Base Card /999
Ruby /399
Emerald /99
Sapphire /85
Gold Spectrum /25
So those five cards of Crosby, will all look the same, other than serial numbering & the colour of the foil.

Parallels can be fun ! (for some, haha)
Definitely hang on to them. Usually the standard parallels aren't worth that much more, but depending on the player on the card, it could be definitely worth a bit more to some player collectors out there!
(For those player collectors still searching for their 14-15 MVP Gold Scripts /100, you probably know the feels)

Ugh, don't remind me.
Yeah basically every product these days puts in some lovely parallels for you to chase and the only different is the color or something like that

Don't toss duplicates anyways! Unless your posting of "toss" means something other than throwing into the garbage...

For a visual example, let's dive into the ghost of Artifacts past, shall we? Just wanted to give ellford a glimpse of what parallels are all about.
Here's an example from 2008-2009 Upper Deck Artifacts' rookie parallels that year taken from one of my PC's. Notice how all the cards look very similar, but vary in foil colour and, most importantly, in print run.
I'll show off some bigger scans so you can notice all the various print runs printed on the cards.
/999 (Regular) (Copper/Bronze)

/100 (Silver)

/75 (Gold)

/50 (Blue)

/25 (Copper/Bronze Spectrum)

/10 (Silver Spectrum)

Now, I would still need two more cards to complete this "Rainbow" (All the type of parallels from one particular player in a set). I still need to acquire the Gold Spectrum /5 and the Black 1/1 rookie.
NOTE: The colours and print runs stated here are ONLY for Artifacts 2008-09, as different years can have different colours, print runs, etc.
Hope this little helped!
