    New guy from Canada

Just joined this site after searching on line for a place in Canada to get some cards graded.

I noticed this site, opened it, liked what I seen so decided to join.

I am mainly a Base Ball card collector but do have some older Hockey cards too. I know, it should be the other way around, eh? lol.

About 20yrs ago my Father gave me a bunch of his old 1952 Topps base ball cards, mostly high numbers, including a Mickey Mantle. My luck, not that it's bad considering I received these cards, but the Mickey Mantle is the worse one of the bunch! In the bottom right corner, less than an 1/8th of the card, the top layer is missing. The rest of the card is decent, with a slight crease near his face.

Anyways, like I mentioned, I was looking for a place in Canada (if it exists?) to get these cards, especially the Mantle graded/appraised so if anyone knows of such a place, or the path forward, I would appreciate it.

Also, being since I am a newbie and somewhat concerned about privacy, is it a good idea to post pics on here?

    Thanks.

Looking forward to checking this site out and learning a thing or two.

Wow, a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle. Most guys on here probably want one and I figure there is only a very small few guys who actually own one. Not too many collectors can say they have ever owned that card. Congrats!

Thanks, Pwaldo. I never ever "truly" collected cards growing up, although I do have some from when I was young, I don't have any complete sets.

Like I mentioned, it was about 20 yrs ago, when I heard there was a huge/big upsurge in collector cards (at least in my opinion) that I asked my Dad if he ever kept any of my old cards (I had moved out already) to wish he pulled out some of my old hockey cards, as well as all these 52 Topps cards. Hearing a bit about the values of some, I purchased my first ever Beckett book and was blown away by the price of some of them, especially the Mantle! Like I mentioned, it is the worse card of the bunch, (go figure) but it is still in really nice shape compared to what I have seen on E-Bay. I know with the bottom right layer missing, it decreases the value big time, but from the reading/research I have done, like you say, I am real lucky I own it!

Yes, for sure, centering is a big thing, and was very problematic with the 52 Topps cards, at least the higher numbered ones.

The Bobby Thomson above is real bad, and I don't think I have any better ones than the Leo Durocher or Willie Mays above? It's too bad about the May's one, if it was centered better, I am sure it would be a mint nr/mt card for sure.

Hello Irv and welcome to SCF. Nice Mantle despite the condition.

Thanks, Jeremy. I'm a pretty proud owner of it for sure!

Like in my original post, do you or anyone else know of a place in Canada, or the route to go to get these cards graded/appraised?

    Thanks.

Thanks, Scott. I know it is hard to tell from just a pic, (the back of the card is ex/mint) but any idea what the card might be worth? Only other pic of it I currently have. (Won't let me upload another pic even though I reduced the size?)

Welcome to SCF! I would post in the baseball forum to get a better idea on what people think of the Mantle.
