And Stefan Elliott, who's probably the main piece coming back in Bergevin's mind. He was the Avs' top defensive prospect at one point, but has fallen off in recent years. It does seem like they're giving up on Tinordi too early though, but what do I know.

Bartley turns 28 in February and was waived and sent down to the AHL at the end of November, after playing in one game with the Preds this season back on October 20th.
So, Jarred Tinordi for Victor Bartley and John Scott. Is this Bergevin indirectly saying, "I'd rather have two fringe guys who can at least contribute something rather than a prospect type who will never even be that." ?

I don't get these moves. Obviously no market for Tinordi, but the return being Scott and Elliott? And then flipping Elliott for Bartley? Odd deals for Habs. Still think Tinordi can be a good defenceman. Just needs to increase his foot speed and I think his hockey IQ isn't as low as some think - he just needs playing time. Hopefully he gets that in Arizona.
Not onboard with this trade.

Been chatting about this with a friend. The idea the it could be a precursor to something else is a non-starter for me. If it was a precursor, Habs would be doing one of two things:
- Clearing Cap Space
- Shedding Contract(s)
They did neither. They added a contract, and cleared no space. Tinordi was making the rookie cap ($851k). They could replace him on the roster with someone that makes the minimum.... but that's going to add a grand total of about $100k to their salary cap.
So I can only conclude that they made this deal because one of these things is true:
- Habs didn't think Tinordi would clear waivers, and they were willing to accept ANYTHING in return for him. This was the best they could get.
- Habs desperately wanted Tinodi out of their organization
- Habs actually wanted to add John Scott
- Habs actually wanted to add Victor Bartley

One more piece of speculations........
Could it be that Montreal is soon going to announce that Carey Price is out for the remainder of the season, and they're giving up on the season? Expecting to miss the playoffs?
By trading for Scott, they remove him from the Pacific division, where a new All Star Captain will have to be named. He didn't get as many votes as Jagr, so he won't be Atlantic Captain either.
In exchange for saving the NHL of the embarrassment that was Scott's name linked to the All Star Game, the league has agreed to rig the draft lottery, and have Montreal win the #1 Pick!

This. I like this.
This won't have anywhere near the on-ice impact of the Scott Gomez trade, but it is just as big of a joke.
