Contenders 8's Habs Auto - HOF Inscription?
Came across this one the other day while looking for Beliveau stuff.
Front side normal:

Back side...not so much:

I mean, it's cool and all that it has their HOF year inscription, but weird that it's not their actual autograph. And I don't remember ever seeing any other Panini autos that would have required HOF inscriptions as a separate thing from the auto.
Anybody else see anything like this in their travels?

I saw this and figured it was an "error" card or that they ran out of the actual sticker autos.
Here is mine with actual autos:

Man, that's weird, and really cool at the same time! Wonder what happened? Maybe they ran auto of autos, so they inscribed these HHOF Inscriptions as some fillers?

That's terribad. Did you personally pull it? I wonder if it was tampered with.

I have to wonder if this was tampered with after being pulled or if Panini might have ran out of stickers and just had someone jot down the years of the players induction as a "substitution" or option three could Panini have run out of sticker auto's but for some reason have some HHOF inscription's left over from something else and just slapped those on instead?
Regardless an interesting card and if the price was reasonable it'd be a good pick up IMO

While it's tough to tell from the photo, I do think I see the Panini watermark in the HOF stickers so the card probably wasn't tampered with. I would be a little disappointed though if I pulled a Contenders Five instead of a Contenders Eight card. While the HOF inscriptions make it an interesting card, you would always be wondering if the inscriptions were signed by the player or just some Panini employee as a placeholder or filler.
If you compare Yvan Cournoyer's HOF inscription from his UD Centennial Induction Inks, it doesn't really match the inscription here but who really knows.

I saw this card too. A little weird, not a fan of it.

As a Beliveau collector I too saw this card and was intrigued. However, I seriously question the "legitimacy" of this card for all the reasons mentioned. It is not a true eight player AU card, the HOF signings on the stickers may or may not be legit and do not appear to match the writing style of any of the players with HOF and in any case the seller should be very aware of the above and advertising correctly.

Why would they (Panini) allow such a card to slip through into packs? I mean, if they didn't have enough signatures, couldn't they have just created more singles instead of creating this 8-way? Sticker management is key.

I'm not a fan either. I think it is a lazy and inept way to handle the fact that they did not properly manage their stickers. Reason #1005 that sticker autos suck! They took what should have been an EPIC card and made it look amateurish.
