Submitting hockey cards for BGS grading !!!
Hi !
I've never done that before but now it seems like a good idea to do so. The first question : When I have authentic buyback autograph 1 on 1 cards do I have to submit both cards or just the main card to beckett for grading or they need to see the authentication card aswell ?
Second question: If I have some personally signed cards do I need to get them authenticate first and then send them to grading ? I mean some are really beautiful and they would look even cooler after being graded.
And the third question : What's the best way to send the cards in...I mean when you have high end expensive cards...I don't seem to trust these semi rigid card sleeves and personally I would like to send them in inside Magnetics.
Please let me know about your experiences.
Best Regards,
Alari

#1) no idea, I assume just the main card tho
2) authentication and grading happen at the same time
3) I would like to know this too: not even one touches for me, would like to know if a top loader is acceptable; I really hate the card saver things, they aren't safe lol

I know you are asking about BGS but I recently sent out some cards to PSA and used the card savers. Once the card is inside, they are almost impossible to budge. I had a package of about 10 and sandwiched them all between 2 pieces of cardboard and they were super secure.

And I'm wondering if someone has ever submitted a press plate card to get it graded.... I mean the newer ones that have actually a note that it's 1 of 1... I'm just thinking if it's a good idea or not.

It depends what you'd want to do with it.
And I'm sure it's been done, but I wouldn't bother with grading a 1/1 if you plan to keep it, as it is still the only copy, regardless of the numbered grade. But the choice is up to you. If you want it for your personal collection and would think it looks cooler, then go for it.
However, if you're planning to sell it, collectors usually prefer graded Young Guns and other true rookie cards in my opinion. Grading a 1/1 won't really matter, as it's still the only card that should carry some decent demand because it's a 1/1, even if it's ungraded. A graded 1/1 would sell eventually, depending on the player and the collector, but don't expect a huge return or massive bump in your suggested asking price just because it's graded. Some collectors won't always bite on that, but a lot of it comes down to personal preference. Some collectors prefer great graded on a lot of their cards, whereas some other collectors don't care about the grades and can't justify paying a premium asking price.
Summary: If it were me, I would not grade a 1/1 plate. Just keep it as is. As for your other cards in your collection, the choice is yours. :) Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.
Annnnnnnyways, rant over. Hoped this helped in some way. :)Jhonas Enroth Card Collector & Host of the Hidden Content

Thanks for the reply. But yeah all the cards are in my own PC and i'm willing to hold them as long as possible :D I haven't done any grading before and now when I look the cards with a more critical view then I see that most of them have some flaws, usually the corners aren't perfect, I guess the grade wouldn't be high enough to spend that kind of money to get a 7 or 8 !
But I must say it makes me somewhat jealous to see guys who have let their PC collection graded. Looks super cool and it holds and probably gains more value during the years.

I also have a question about the shipping fees. It seems that Beckett offers lower shipping fees only in U.S it means that when I live in Canada I need to pay the same amount than other International collectors. Like 1-20 cards 60 bucks etc etc. Or Did I misunderstood something ? Has anyone from Canada some information about the shipping fees ?

I sent 10 cards to BGS in the summer and I sent them in sleeves and top loaders and they said nothing about it so I assume they are fine. From Canada shipping was the same as international rates. It took three months to get them back.

You choose the turn around time, it's not Beckett :) You can choose quick or more money or 50 business day (2.5ish months) for cheaper.
