Titanium Rookie?
I never really followed Titanium closely and I know there's two variations but just wanted to make sure, the Jersey # version is the true rookie right?
I recently bought a Nyquist /100, thats just the parallel correct?
Then I also bought this Saad tonight for what I think is a steal assuming I have it correct that this is the true RC:

2011-12 Panini Titanium #149 - Brandon Saad /43
Purchased for $2.75

The Saad above is a true RC right? Also if it is the True RC what would a fair value for it be?Last edited by MattDMC; 03-05-2016 at 01:12 AM.

"True RC" is in the eye of the beholder. I think the whole concept is a bunch of hogwash used to jack up prices on whatever card the seller has at the time. They also have "draft position" cards, which often have a shorter print run than the uniform number. So is someone going to argue that the player's Draft position card numbered to /10 is worth less than his "True RC" which is numbered to his jersey /60 because the draft position card is a parallel and not his "True" RC? Sounds like a lot of BS.
To me, a rookie card is the "base" card of the set, and anything that is numbered is a "parallel".SHARKS and CAPITALS Fan +++ Tomas Hertl cards: 512 & counting Hidden Content ...... Hidden Content

Well.... what about the Hobby and Retail parallels? Which is the "real RC"?
This comes back to what I consider a central problem in hockey cards these days: too many damn cards for too few collectors.

Brandon Saad has two cards from the set that are both /43, his true rookie card: http://opg.sportscardforum.com/scf/inv/viewset/153389, and a Draft Selection Parallel Gold: http://opg.sportscardforum.com/scf/inv/viewset/153419 . Looking at the pics in the inventory, I am not immediately sure how to tell the difference between the two cards.

The true rc is thicker and shiny. Yours looks like the true rc, at that price you had a good deal!

It is considered the true version to the jersey! Beckett value right now has it 149 Brandon Saad /43 RC 50.00/100.00.
Of course its hard when the get traded at first but he's doing very well in columbus too! Congrats on the pick up!!

I'm sorry, but your opinion is flawed, the hobby which carries a stronger than yours disagrees. The card in question is the true rookie.

I don't think "True RC" is in the eye of the beholder.... as you said: The "base card" is the actual Rookie Card - but the base card is whatever the manufacturer says it is.
Which card is more valuable? I think that is certainly in the eye of the beholder. You example: A "True RC /60" vs a "draft parallel /10"..... I would expect to pay more for the draft parallel. It's going to be significantly harder to get.
But isn't that the case anyway? Rare parallels will typically sell for more money - it's when the parallel & true RC are not a great deal different in print run that the RC gets the bigger dollar figure.

Well, what's the difference between a "Rookie" and a "True Rookie"? Nothing. Both are rookie cards. Ten years ago, there was no such thing as a "True Rookie". It's just a term Beckett made up out of thin air to justify putting a higher price tag on something. And as many people have pointed out, "the hobby" can't really agree on much of anything, except to sucker in sheeple to pay more money for a certain card. Go ahead and pay 10 times more for a "True Rookie" just because Beckett tells you to. It'll only mean that you lose 10 times more money when the Zombie Apocalypse hits, and you end up burning all your cards to stay warm. I'll keep my money, and my "flawed" opinion -- coming from a Kings fan, that is a complement.
