Why do certain cards have to be redeemed?
I've never understood why certain high-end cards had to be redeemed. Is it because the cards weren't ready when the packs when out? And how reliable are redemptions?

you,re right about the cards not being ready, and redemptions can be a long and frustrating process and sometimes the card companies never get the cards signed by the player on your redemption and you get whatever they decide to give you as compensation,as a rule i try to stay away from products with alot of redemptions.on a side note look at all the people who had redemptions for fleer products and got a royal buttkicking when fleer went under so i guess my answer is i don,t consider redemption cards very reliable take care spuds

You're correct, usually the redemptions are inserted when the cards aren't ready to be put into packs. I have had good luck with the two redemptions that I have recieved, both of which were through Donruss. One was back in 1998 for a Nolan Ryan autograph out of Donruss Signature Edition. I received it very quickly. The other was in 2001, for the card you see in my avatar. It took a long time, but as compensation for the long weight and another screwup on their part, they sent me 4 packs of 2001 Donruss and a pack/box of 2001 Donruss Signature Edition. Needless to say, I have been very pleased with Donruss redemptions and customer service.

Sidenote: I did purchase a redemption card for a Robin Yount auto out of 2004 Fleer E/X, but resold it about two weeks before they went under. Lucky me :icon_smil

I've never seen one...in the hundreds of boxes I've busted I've never seen a redemption card...I would not know one to look at it.
