Game-Dated Moments
Was looking through some older cards last night and came across a subset from 2006-07. There were both rookie and veteran sets, and it was called Game Dated Moments and featured key achievements from players in the course of the previous season. I guess they eventually replaced that with the Biography of a Season promotion but I think UD should bring this back.
Here's the Cam Ward from the 06-07 set, chronicling the end of the 05-06 season:

I think having these kind of cards increases their relevance to a lot of collectors. Here's a more recent example, something I got from the Habs' Club 1909 program:

Obviously I spruced up the presentation a bit, but the card itself is pretty sweet. The net cord is from the game where Carey Price registered his 43rd win of the 14-15 season to establish a new Canadiens record for wins by a goalie in a season. Photo from the game, memorabilia from the game.
As a player collector I like stuff like this a lot more than a generic insert. UD does do this type of thing in SP Game Used with the Cup Finals net cords and skirts, and the Winter Classic stuff each year. But that's it. SPGU is the only product bearing announced game-specific memorabilia cards. How cool would it be if 15-16 Cup included a piece of Alex Ovechkin's jersey/glove/stick or even the puck from his 500th goal this year? For a player collector, that's an amazing piece of history to add to your collection!
Thoughts?
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

As an insert set that would be cool if they brought it back. Like you said, It would also give collectors more reason to collect game used cards if we knew when that piece was actually in play.

I agree, cards like that really do make the card that much cooler. And that Cam Ward / Carey Price's are sweet !

And I think those Game Dated Moments are 1:1,500 packs if the odds from the older UD series stayed around the similar odds.Last edited by creasecollector; 05-28-2016 at 03:05 PM.

I love this idea. A few years back Panini did a thing in NFL Limited where the set explained which game the jersey came from. Sad it never came to one of their NHL sets

@EliasDevil And UD has been equally guilty. They've got Carey Price and Max Pacioretty's Heritage Classic jerseys from 2011 and have used them in multiple sets without ever acknowledging the source. It's just weird. If they have a special jersey or one where there's a known link to a historical moment for that player why not hype it up a little?

Same with the Devils. Henrique, Greene and Schneider have had green pieces of Devil jerseys since the Stadium Series subset of SPGU came out with no acknowledgement either.

I loved these GDT inserts. It's nice to celebrate special events, not just having a card with a player on it on an ordinary game.

For the Jersey stuff, I will be very surprised if Upper Deck ever does something like that (tell you which specific game something was worn in).
Unless a rep from Upper Deck is there to take the jersey from the player as they remove it, there is just too many way that Upper Deck could be "wrong" (despite being told from the team, PA, or whomever, that they are "right") when they make that certification on the back.
That's why the certifications have become more and more ambiguous. They don't even really certify that the player on the card actually wore the jersey.... just that it was worn by someone, sometime, in an official NHL game (or event, depending on the card).
As for game dated moments (like the card in the picture) I do really like them. They've had "Authentic Moments" in SP Authentic the last few years.... there's been some great cards in there, and autographed versions too.
I think more and more of this stuff, a nice photo from a specific play / moment - I really like it.

For sure adds something to the product eh?
Good point about the jerseys--they would have to double- and triple-check things at the quality control stage for sure. They have the advantage in that most teams will do the 3 home & 3 away sets for a season, and the authentication paperwork will indicate which set the jersey is. So if Sidney Crosby goes on a tear and bangs in 3 hat tricks in 3 games in October...well Set #1 is gonna be a really nice thing to have if you're Upper Deck.
Somehow forgot about the Authentic Moments set!
