I think the rumors have him landing in Detroit, Toronto, New York (R), other New York (I), Boston, Buffalo, and staying in Tampa Bay. I've read speculation of "don't be surprised if the Panthers are in on him too".

I would be very surprised if he stays in Tampa. I've had the sense (for a while) that Yzerman / Cooper have made a mess of the Stamkos situation, and they are going to lose him for nothing.... players don't get to UFA status (and Stamkos is possibly the best UFA of all time) and then stay put.

It would be a very Rangers thing to do, sign him, and make room for his salary afterwards.

Toronto is where he'll make the most money, but the team won't be good for a few years, is he willing to play on a non-playoff team in the short term?

Detroit is headed to non-playoff status... and I don't think Stamkos changes that. I bet he does not sign with the Wings.

Boston? See Detroit. They're another team trending down....

Islanders, I would be shocked if they land him. While singing him would be a very "Rangers" thing to do.... it would be very un-Islanders-like.

Buffalo? That idea intrigues me. The owner is filthy rich... so no issue coming up with the money... unlike Detroit & Boston - their talent is young, and trending upwards. They should be a better team next season (than last) if they just bring back the same group. That might be similar to the Leafs, but I think the Sabres have more building blocks in place already, and their "top talent" is better than Toronto's.

Panthers?? I love that idea, but I'd be surprised.

So I guess I'm betting he lands in New York state somewhere.

No where is the correct answer! I cheated though. Assuming what I just read is legit.

Easily the best move for him. That team is solid and has a chance to win the cup every year. Good on him for staying

Steven Stamkos signed a 8 year / $68,000,000 contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning, including $68,000,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $8,500,000. In 2016-17, Stamkos will earn. Stamkos has a cap hit of $8,500,000.
