This set is for the kids and why any rational collector would buy dozens and even more packs at a time is mind boggling to me. No offence to anyone but I got a couple of packs when this promotion first came out and that was it. I would much rather get a box at my lcs and be happy with the promo packs they give to me for my purchase.

I am pretty sure the big kids that buy this do it for resale and trying to land autos and game used. That was my point there. This set is for the kids when they goto tims with their families and when you have collectors buying up all the packs, that makes that impossible. I think that is why mcd's stopped selling their cards b/c adults would just buy all their packs.

The odds of pulling relic/auto cards in tim hortons packs are so unbelievably miniscule that I really doubt many collectors were doing that...the ROI would be so terrible it would be a silly endeavor

I bought about 65 packs total over the course of the promotion because they're nice cards and I like collecting sets, it's the main reason I participate in the hobby

They made 9.37 million packs of this stuff. We don't need to play the "will nobody think of the children?" game here. LOL

McDonald's stopped participating in the the cards because they were getting out of the promotional business almost altogether, had nothing to do with people coming in and buying the sleeves that I'm aware of.

If you spend $100 bucks or so on packs, you can sell the inserts for close to that price. With a few trades you can finish the base set and be close to break even. What's not fun about that? I don't see the need to poo-poo on this. Will you get rich off the stuff? No. But will you get rich ripping any wax? Highly unlikely.

I'm one of those "big kids" that bought a lot of packs. The number of cards I sold... ZERO! I did not get a single auto or a game used card. Why did I buy so many packs? To build the set!

When Tim Hortons came out with this set last year, I stopped buying boxes of cards. I've always enjoyed collecting what I like and building sets or subsets. Also, I like opening packs of cards and getting surprised by what is inside the pack. But the way the card market is now, that is very expensive to do. Also, very time consuming. So last year I built the entire set and I just finished building the set again this year. Now, I will do other things in life until Tim Hortons puts out the set next year.

I just calculated how much I spent this year at both Tim Hortons and ebay. It came out to about 500 dollars altogether. Pretty cheap for collecting cards when you want to build a set. However, I built two base sets and did doubles on the inserts except for the three harder inserts to collect. So I only did one set of each for those. I have my one set in a box and the other set without the high end inserts in a binder so I can actually look at them.

Although, I did not sell any cards, I did trade with many people locally. I even sent cards to another collector on here for his personal set because he is a team collector and didn't hit any of the cards from his team. What did I ask for in return? Nothing. Trading locally, most of the trades were of the "What do you need and if I have a double you can just have it" nature. No haggling over prices. No trying to make trades fair. Just people trying to put the set together, helping others trying to put the set together.

There were people who I met locally for trade nights who do not normally collect cards. I had a lot of fun with the Tim Hortons set. To me, that is what card collecting should be all about, collecting what you like and having fun, no matter how old you are. With the number of cards printed this year, there are more than enough cards to go around for everyone.

Great post @JVW - the Tims set is excellent for getting back to basics of collecting. There's less worrying about BV's and SV's, and just going for that old-school "I need this, you need that, wanna trade?" approach. It's very easy to do that when your skin in the game is only $2 a pack. LOL And it is fun doing that style of trading...this is the only set I build each year the last two years because it's relatively easy to do even when you're only getting two base cards per pack. As it is, I've got a bunch of extras and I'll be packaging them up for the younglings coming to the door on Monday trick-or-treating.

Personnally, I bought about 30 packs this year, and a bit more last year. I did the base set and a part of the inserts last year. This year, I kept the Habs cards. The rest of the stuff is popular tradebait. Many people are collecting these cards, and it's easy to move them if you're realistic in what you want in return. I've got some cool Habs and Nordiques cards in return for my collection. I wouldn't spend crazy money on Timmy cards like some people do, but for what I spent, I got more for my money than with many products and it was fun :)
