Today in Nascar History December 1st:
Winners on this date: Wendell Scott.
December 1st, 1963: Wendell Scott wins the event in Jacksonville, FL to score his 1st and only career Cup Series victory and the first and so far only victory for an African American in Nascar's top division. Scott at first did not receive credit for winning the event due to prejudices and was finally given his due some time later for his accomplishment and put into the record books as the rightful winner of the race.
Nascar announces that Monster Energy Drink will be the title sponsor of the sport's premier series, replacing the recently departed Sprint.

December 4th, 2009: Nascar officially moves its season ending banquet and crowns their first 4-time consecutive champion Jimmie Johnson in Las Vegas. The city puts life in the season ending awards ceremony and makes for a great place to celebrate.

Winners on this date: Nobody.
December 5th, 2011: Kurt Busch is relieved of his duties at Penske Racing and the #22 car due to behavioral and temperamental problems. This marks the 2nd time in the career of the past Sprint Cup Champion that he has been essentially fired for behavior issues. Busch's release comes at a bad time for him to find any rides for the 2012 season.

Both of the following events happened in December-however I’m not sure of the date-so I’m just posting them today.
December 1949: Nascar's PR office releases the results of the first Most Popular Driver Poll. Curtis Turner wins with the most votes by the fans.
December 1970: RJ Reynolds announces that the Winston brand of cigarettes will be the title sponsor for the Grand National (Cup) Series. The official name for the series is now the Nascar Winston Cup Grand National Series.

Winners on this date: Bobby Isaac.
December 7th, 1969: Bobby Isaac wins the inaugural Texas 500 at the new Texas International Speedway. It is his first career victory on a superspeedway. Cale Yarborough is seriously injured in the race when he crashes into the wall at the high speed track.

December 8th, 1951: Perry Smith, the owner of Frank Mundy's car, is killed in a private airplane accident in Indiana. :(
December 8th, 1952: Nascar and their series champion for 1952 Tim Flock are featured in an article in the December 8th edition of Time Magazine.
December 8th, 2009: Danica Patrick, the only female to have ever won an oval race in a major American racing series, announces that she will run a limited Nationwide Series schedule for Jr. Motorsports along with her Indy car duties in 2010.
