You'll find that here at least, a lot of guys base trade value on book value, so to my thinking, there really is no difference between the two. You will also find there are several collectors who use sales values, which is based on eBay sales. BV tells you what the "experts" say a card is worth, SV is based on actual sales, mostly on eBay, and TV is typically somewhere in between. I myself use book value to determine my trades.
Having said all that, it's best to remember that cards are only worth what someone is willing to pay...
Oh! One more thing...Love the title of your thread! I use it all the time!Always looking for Senators cards! Must be a draft pick, or the card is identifiable as a Senators card before I want it!
As most of you know, I suffered a fairly severe stroke in April '25, so mail goes out anytime!

BV is Beckett Value, which can be found at Beckett dot com website
TV is Trade Value, because sometimes BV doesn't make a whole lot of sense. There's some listings that don't always correspond to reality, whether it's because a player's listings haven't been updated in some time or the Beckett guys just get it wrong. For example, some Nail Yakupov stuff might have a high BV on it, but are many people out there going to trade for a 60BV Yakupov if they've got a 60BV Jamie Benn to deal away? So sometimes guys will get entrepreneurial and adjust things up or down. This formula also works when it comes to cards that Beckett will mark NPDTS due to low print runs.
SV is what a card sells for on sites like eBay, SCF, COMC, etc. Usually the most reliable and accurate way to gauge a common enough card, though sometimes guys will cherry pick past sales to best fit their argument for paying/asking a certain price on a card.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Thanks for the help guys. I've been slowly getting back into card and then the Leafs rookies really kicked my interest into high gear. Things are much more complicated than 20 yrs ago (ugh or more) since I first got into it.
