Any help for the new guy?

Hey everyone my names Wes and just wanted to say thank you for having me here. I could use a little help. I was recently going through my collection of football and baseball cards with my kids and they were way into it as most of us here probably were as kids. I have decided to start collecting a little more seriously but I know very little about collecting. Im one to try and do my research before diving head first into things and have run across a few questions I cant seem to find the answer to. Other than ebay, local shops, craigslist, and shows, are there other online places that are really good for finding cards? Also, I have been on google for hours trying to learn all the different brands of cards and ohhhh boy is it a lot of info to take in. Is there a guide somewhere that will tell me what brands/runs collect better and hold value? Sorry for the long winded post but any advice or tips for a very new guy would be nice.

I have decided to start small so I will initially focus on collecting some cowboys cards since thats the team I know the most about. Once I get comfortable with it Ill broaden my collection.

Outside of COMC.com there really aren't other places to buy card singles. For boxes and stuff you have places like DACARDWORLD.com you can trust buying boxes and packs from.

Also not much of a football guy, but you'll find that the regulars here are usually pretty quick, and very good with the advice, and encouragement they give! Easiest thing to do when starting out, stick with what you know, TRY to maintain a reasonable budget, and remember, it's a hobby, not really a business! Enjoy it with your kids!
