Rumor roundup: What should the blues do with kevin shattenkirk?

St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk was the subject last summer of considerable trade speculation. For weeks, there was talk that Blues GM Doug Armstrong was shopping the 27-year-old rearguard, who's eligible this July for unrestricted free agency.
Armstrong apparently set a expensive asking price for the puck-moving blueliner: From the Boston Bruins, both of their first-round picks in the 2016 draft plus right winger David Pastrnak. The Detroit Red Wings, meanwhile, spurned Armstrong's request for promising left winger Dylan Larkin.

LOL If Larkins name was brought up I'm sure it was to compare a player "hey we are looking for a 1st rounder and someone similar to Larkins speed.....whatcha got?"

I think Shatty will be traded before or at the deadline.

Personally I'm hoping for a J.T. Miller trade or a similar trade to Boston that was offered at the draft, 1st rounder, Trent Frederic and a Center....Maybe Spooner? doubt they will move Pasta now with the year he is having.

And who is to say that any of these rumors only included us sending Shatty could very well been other pieces or picks added on our end.

The Blues "HAVE" to trade him unless they are willing to pay him TOP dollar in the off season because some team will make a huge offer based on the expected slim pickings of free agent D-men.
They can't afford to lose him after last season, losing backes, brouwer, etc. and getting nothing in return.

We won't do that, we wouldn't have cap space for some of our younger talent.

If they can get a 1st, a "legit" young roster player (I mean someone that will be a regular, not necessarily a star.... but certainly not a bubble press box guy) and a decent prospect - I'd take it.

They're a playoff team though, so it's tough. You going to deal one of your better players for futures, when you're trying to go on a playoff run?

I can tell you right now those prices are absolutely ridiculous. Boston doesn't want another Torey Krug at the expense of their most hopeful prospect. Look at what Adam Larsson fetched from Edmonton does not set the bar for other teams in the price to pay for a top end d-man. Edmonton had to give that up because of the league wide frustration with all the 1st overall picks and poor asset management. If the Blues want anything remotely close to those asking prices that'll only be possible with Edmonton.
I personally believe he will either stay in St.Louis for the remainder of the season or possibly as a wild card go to the Tampa Bay Lightning. They have a goalie to give up in Bishop who has history with the team and or a forward.
