I love this time of year. Scoreboard watching, looking at the standings every night, trying to do the math to see how much is needed to secure the magical X- beside your team's name.

I'm also a fan of http://sportclubstats.com/ for this.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

As a Habs fan, things are looking pretty good statistically right now. The only question really is will they win the division and play the Rangers in the 1st round, or will they slip behind Ottawa and play Boston?

They say Toronto has a very good chance but i'm not sure getting into the Playoffs & facing Washington & probably getting Swept will do these young kids much good. I guess its better than missing out though..

Wings: 0%. The Streak had to stop sometime.
Oilers: 97%. Quite the appropriate number considering the main reason they've gotten there (not the only reason, but def. the #1 driver)

    Yup.....

Oilers "magic number" is 13 now, with 11 games to go. Pretty hard to imagine they can't win at least 5 of those games.... and if they were to go 5-6, LA would still need to be near perfect to catch them.

Big game tonight, against the Kings. If the Oilers win it's pretty close to being locked up. That 13 would drop to 9, with 10 games to go.

After this weekend's sweep of the Senators, it is now an 84% probability the Habs will play the Rangers in round one.

One of the weird quirks of the wild card slot..... I realize that no team would ever openly want to "pick their match up" but it seems the reward for finishing 2nd in the Atlantic is much greater than the reward for finishing first.

Ottawa could still pass Montreal, but it's very unlikely the Bruins (or anyone else) could catch them... so I'll ignore that as a possibility.

The Senators could certainly be caught by the Bruins still, but I think the chanced of the Leafs catching them are pretty slim.

The Bruins could still get passed by the Leafs, and Tampa has a shot too. Everyone lower than TB in the Atlantic standings is out of it.

So it's going to be one of Montreal, Ottawa, or Boston in 2nd place... and they will play one of Ottawa, Boston, Toronto, or Tampa. The winner (Montreal or Ottawa) gets a Rangers team that has a better record than they do. Pretty sure the Habs head-to-head against NYR this year is favorable (i.e. unbeaten) so it's not something I'd suggest they should be worried about all that much.... BUT.... doesn't really seem fair at the same time.

I think I'd still like it better if they got rid of the WC all togther, and just took the top 4. It wouldn't change who makes the playoffs this year (based on today's standings) it would just keep the Leafs & Rangers in their own divisions.

After this weekend's sweep of the Senators, it is now an 84% probability the Habs will play the Rangers in round one.
