If Vegas was smart, they would pick Doan and sign him to a two-year contract. He would instantly be your team leader for a very young team. He would probably like the idea, since it would keep him as close to home as possible, and it is doubtful that any team with a good chance to win the Cup is going to take a flyer on a 40-year-old.

More importantly, it would give the team instant credibility in their market and make good business sense. It's not all about who the best players are. You have to remember that Vegas is a business in a tough market with competition. Imagine how many pseudo Coyotes fans in northern Arizona would start going to games in Vegas and watching Vegas games on TV because their captain was just released and signed in Vegas? The Knights would steal away a lot of Yotes fans in the northern part of the state, and that is what a business is all about.

I am of the opinon that Vegas should leave MF Fleury to the Pens and grab a younger forward such as Rust. In the world of the cap, why give the defending champions more cap space for free? Take a player that means something to them and is young enough to make a difference for Vegas. MAF is too old to make a meaningful difference in a few years when the VGK can actually compete.

Here's my mock draft (assembled on TSN): http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/assemble-the-k...rName=QPARCUZU

    Forwards

    Defence

    Goalies

with the exception of Bobby Ryan, the theme here is to go young and build from the draft.

I was talking about this today with some friends and thought close to the same thing. Vegas should sign Doan to a one year deal with the promise to trade him to a playoff contender at the deadline. Vegas gets a veteran leader through half the season and then a draft pick at the deadline, Doan gets to still be close to family when in the Vegas area until the deadline to make his last playoff run.

I would assume the Kings would pay Vegas to take Dustin Brown... probably wouldn't part with enough picks to make it worth it for Vegas though.

Radulov, Marleau, Sharp are UFAs - so if Vegas picks them, they would (almost for sure) lose them for nothing.

Ryan's contract is huge... unlikely to be taken (I think) but Ottawa is probably okay if it's off their Cap.

Mrazek is a surprise, for sure. Kronwall? My thinking is injury prone / old / hasn't been great since Lidstrom retired.

If the Leafs lose Sparks, I'll be shocked. Really shocked. Don't think he projects higher than an AHL goalie... and even if you think he's an NHL backup, there are better ones available.

Dumba is victim of a number crunch - so not shocking he's available - but he's one of the first players I'm taking if I was running Vegas... and if Minnesota offers a 1st round pick to not take him, I tell them I want 2 1st, or I'm doing it.

Marchessault, I'm not sure what FLA is thinking. I think that's another automatic pick.

Yakupov has fallen, big time. No surprise he's available, and is a risky pick (better proven players available from STL) but I think it's a great gamble if Vegas does it.

I think Pickard and Mrazek would be better long term picks.....but both are young.....likely not want to,play 2nd 🎻

@Pheebs888 shared a link with me this morning that Vegas already has six trades in place with other teams. These deals won't be announced until Thursday, but you have to believe that they dramatically influence who Vegas plucks from each team in the Expansion Draft. And it may muck things up for anybody who is participating in our Expansion Draft Contest!

Yeah I was trying my best to go with teams that weren't rumoured to have a deal in place. I likely should have waited until today because according to today's rumours Tampa snuck a a deal in under the wire to not touch their D-men.
The want list at this link features what I need of Gretzky, Roy, Ottawa Senators, and Miscellaneous sets. I also have a CFL want list on my page and if you have nothing from it I will consider other traders of current Ottawa Senators,Guy Lafleur, + trade bait.

I'll play along too, here's my best (and probably completely wrong) stab at the Vegas roster based on my guesses/stuff I've heard:

    Forwards:

    Logan Shaw (ANA)
    Alexander Burmistrov (ARI)
    William Carrier (BUF)
    Troy Brouwer (CGY)
    Lee Stempniak (CAR)
    Mikhail Grigorenko (COL)
    William Karlsson (CBJ)
    Curtis McKenzie (DAL)
    Riley Sheahan (DET)
    Jonathan Marchessault (FLA)
    Charles Hudon (MTL)
    James Neal (NSH)
    Josh Bailey (NYI)
    Michael Raffl (PHI)
    David Perron (STL)
    JT Brown (TB)
    Marko Dano (WPG)

    Defense:
    Colin Miller (BOS)
    Trevor van Riemsdyk (CHI)
    Griffin Reinhart (EDM)
    Brayden McNabb (LAK)

    Matt Dumba (MIN)
    Jon Merrill (NJD)
    Marc Method (OTT)

    Dylan DeMelo (SJS)
    Alexey Marchenko (TOR)
    Alex Biega (VAN)

    Goalies:
    Antti Raanta (NYR)
    Marc-Andre Fleury (PIT)
    Philipp Grubauer (WSH)

12/30 right. I knew Vegas would steal Pickard from COL I was just denying it would happen. Wanted him to stay in Colorado. I also was torn between Raffl and Bellemare from Philly but eventually guessed Raffl instead. So could've been 14/30. Think Vegas went kind of off the grid on where most of us thought they would go. Will be interesting to see what trades come out of their picks.
