COMC Jacking Mailbox Processing Rate
Got this email today...
Updated COMC Mailbox Fee
Mailbox submissions make up for nearly 80% of the packages we open, yet they barely make up 1% of the cards we process. To ensure quality service for both our Mailbox customers and our traditional consignment customers, we need to change how we charge for our Mailbox service. While our traditional consignment services now require a $6 minimum submission fee and they are charged an additional $3 if no paperwork is included, we are allowing Mailbox packages to be serviced with only a $3.00/package + $0.60/item processing fee.
Graded cards are now only an additional $0.30 per item; on the rare occasion that we receive a graded card with a sticker on the case which prevents us from providing a clean scan, we will process the item into your account, but that item may not be listed for sale. Jumbo, booklet, and non-standard sized cards are an additional $0.60 per item.
Current fee is $2. So this almost doubles it. This is still cheaper than shipping most cards directly from the US to Canada, but it isn't quite the savings that it used to be.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Got the same email.
It's a significant hike for 1 card, and escalates quickly. Right now it's $2 minimum, but 50 cents per card... so 1-to-4 cards is $2. If I read that right.... it's $3.60 for the first card, and 60 cents for each one after that.

That was my interpretation of the email too. I think people are using it more than they thought they would and I can imagine it is kind of annoying for them to process so many envelopes with single cards. I understand why they are doing this, but it still is a little disappointing. This coupled with the new processing fees is going to have a significant impact on my COMC activities.

I should add, there's another "hidden" cost to using the mailbox.... you pay another 25 cents per card, when you have them shipped back to you.
I think most COMC users know that there is a 25 cent fee included in the cost of a card you buy on the site, this covers shipping costs (it's how they were able to do $3 flat rate shipping for so long, and how their ship rates are still very reasonable).
But on a mailbox submission, nobody paid that 25 cents.... you're just paying the processing (and receiving) fees.... so even on a single card (currently) it's $2.25, 4 cards would cost $3.00.... and you're paying 75 cents per card afterwards.
The new structure is going to to be $3.85 by the time you ship the single card home, and 85 cents per card after that.
At the end of the day though, it is still cheaper. If you can get free shipping within the USA (which is very common) vs $7 to Canada... or (worse) the Global Ship program.... it's still a pretty good deal.
