Suggestions needed
I have a few projects I work on within my collections and I am looking for suggestions for a way of better organizing them. I like to look at my collection.
For a team collection (Colorado Avalanche and Boston Bruins) I am toying with either putting by year or player?
For the Player collection I believe in sequence would be better. But what DB should I use they all see to have spaces?
Also do a NHL Hall of Fame auto collection.
Now on to the ultimate hockey card catalog. This one has one card for every set made. Pretty fun collection and a challenge I have been working on for years. Minor, euro cards and team issues seem to be the hardest and the lower print run cards.
What if a card goes over multiple collections or a graded card? Oversized, thick, booklets, graded etc
Now what to do with all the other cards that are left.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It's your collection - you're the one that has to look at it. I'd go with whatever fits best for me.
I've got a couple player PC's that are a little larger than others so Carey & Josh each get their own 3200pt box. The other guys I sort by who I like most and then their cards in chronological order.

i also sort my pc from oldest to newest....have separate binders for base/inserts, autos, mem for my bobby ryan PC, my Nick suzuki pc all goes in one binder from oldest to newest.....and my getzky is all just radomly in two binders cause there are just to many cards to try and sort them by year/release. Everything that is two big for a binder is on display in my room. As for which DB to use I am a huge fan of the one on here :)
Wayne Gretzky PC 1671 cards
Wade Boggs PC 411 cards
Tony Gwynn PC 195 cards

I store my Blues collection in binders sorted by year. It's neat to be able to flip through the evolution of the team.

Player Collection: My Ranford base & low-mid end inserts / parallels are all stored in a binder (ordered by year, set). The higher end inserts / parallels, jerseys, autos - They're all in top loaders (or one touches) in a couple of boxes (sorted the same way). I've got a few oversized / oddball cards that needed special sleeves, so they're out of sync in the binder - but that's okay. Same with slabbed cards - the don't fit in order with the cards in top loaders, so they're stored separate.
For team collection - I guess it depends on what you collect. My Oilers collecting is pretty big... but I don't mass collect any single player. My collection includes cards of anyone to have ever played for the Oilers, and depending on exactly what I own for any particular player, it's 1-4 cards for each (with a couple of exceptions, there might be 5)
All of those cards are in top loaders (or one touches) in boxes. I have them sorted by the year in which they made their Oilers debut, and alphabetically within that year.... So anyone who played in 1979-80 is included in that season (sorted alphabetically). For 1980-81... I only have players that joined the team that season.... players from 79-80 are not included a second time.

I have my Caps PC by year, for the same reason as Maggot above.
For the cards that go over multiple collections, I would try to find another copy to add to the differing collections. That way you don't need to try and keep track of what goes where and why something may be missing when it's really not.
If you want to put these in a format to look through like a binder, I would avoid slabbed cards if possible. When not, you'll need to store them differently. Thick cards like The Cup base can probably fit in sleeves designed for larger postcards or something.99-00 Exclusives: 303/305 (99.3%); 2015-16 OPC Platinum: 1777/2118 (83.9%)

I store everything in separate binders (traders, PC's, small sets), usually sorted based on when I receive the cards. There are a few that can't fit in the sleeves, so they're stored in shoe boxes. Everything has its place and is stored neatly.

My Forsberg collection is stored by brand (make and set) and then year. The majority is in binders, <$20, and one binder per brand - upper deck, pacific, topps, and all others. Within it's by set and then by year - so within upper deck it's all upper series 1/2 by year then SPX by year, then SPA by year, etc. it's cool to see the progression. I've toyed to separate base and insert but parallels pose a problem as I have them organized in the binders so the parallels are adjacent to the base set and open spaces or holes for the cards I am missing. Therefore it may easy to spot what I'm missing and then i don't have to reorganize.
For the cards >$20, they are on display as wall mounted picture frames. A small amount are just sitting in a box waiting to go on display. However I forsee me taking down the wall mounts and going completely to binders. As my kids are entering the "danger zone" of destroying anything on display.
