Baffled by this Chris Higgins card. Help!
I came across this card on COMC, and had to take a closer look as something looked off to me. A closer inspection left me baffled as to how this picture could exist. The card is from 03-04, and it is commemorating Chris Higgins' NHL debut in Oct of 2003. However, in the picture he is shown as an assistant captain...which he wouldn't have been given in his rookie year. And he's wearing #46. He had only ever worn #88 and #21. Matt Higgins wore #46, but never wore an "A". The face belongs to Chris, not Matt. What on earth is going on here? If I'm missing something obvious I'll feel pretty stupid, but at least I'll sleep tonight. Help!

I tried looking at a bunch of things to help you out, but I too have no idea. Unless, could this picture have been from the preseason? I know some other cards from this set are draft day photos, so it is possible it is a preseason image that was made and ready to go as soon as the date of his first game.

It would be odd for a rookie to wear an "A", even in a preseason game.

I think it could be the prospects game @ a rookie camp, as they do shuffle the A's around I believe.

There are a number of weird pictures in that set. Brooks Liach is wearing a Senators jersey (not a Binghampton jersey), and it has a "C" on it.
