I would rather see Leaf/ITG getting a shot at the license then panini. I dont miss them really after all horrible redemption and damaged card issues its good they are out.

I actually never had an issue with a redemption from Panini. I redeemed probably only a dozen or so cards but I've always got them quite quicky, even redeemed one past the exp. date and had no issue. I agree all company's will have issues but I competition is a good thing and I really hope this info is accurate.

That was my understanding. UD has the exclusive for 17-18, and 18-19, and then it's up for bidding (and possible split) again.
If the is true - and Panini will be re-entering Hockey Cards soon (by soon, I'd mean during the 17-18 season) then one of three things must be happening:
1. Panini has offered enough money to both UD & the NHLPA to get in now
2. Panini & Upper Deck have entered into some kind of agreement: Either for Panini to do a release (or multiples) as a sub-license of UD... possible that UD might get the same benefit in another sport? Basketball?
3. Panini is in the process of buying UD.
I don't think any of those three things sounds crazy - but I do see them as all being unlikely.

I actually loved alot of things about Panini - mainly the diversity they provided and deep checklists and creativity in set configurations. However, one thing I struggle with in the hobby right now is how value-less the cards are because of how many sets there are - so a collector who's just looking for some rookie card doesn't have to pay much when there are like 50 different rookie cards for that player. If Panini floods the market with another 10-15 sets every year in addition to the pile of them that UD is printing...well, look at the value of anything from 13-14 even "high end" stuff can be acquired for next to nothing.
I get it's not popular to care about the value of a hobby item, but I do care and I'm okay with having that minority opinion.

I think it's a bit of a fallacy to suggest that the number of RCs a player will have goes up with the number of manufactures.
Here's some examples of top Rookies over the last few incarnations of the license
Connor McDavid: RC Year is 15-16, under a UD Exclusive. He's got 19 RCs
Taylor Hall: RC Year is 10-11, with both Panini & UD making cards. He's got 21 RCs (if you don't count the French version of UD1 as a separate card).
Steven Stamkos: RC Year is 08-09, under the prior UD Exclusive. He had 20 RCs
Andrew Raycroft: I picked the 03-04 Calder Trophy winner... from the last year that there were 4 licensed manufacturers. He's got 26 RCs... but that number is inflated due to how Pacific did some releases. If you don't count Private Stock / Retail... or Titanium / Retail / Draft Day as separate releases - the number is down to 23.
So while more manufactures has meant more RCs - I don't think it's significantly higher. Are values of RCs lower because there is too many on the market? Probably. I don't think Upper Deck making 18-20 of them... or Upper Deck & Panini making 10 or 11 each... is going to affect that much.
If Panini (or anyone) were to get back into things, the number of products UD makes would drop.

A friend of mind opened up about 5 boxes of Select on the weekend. It's got one of those "deep checklists" with over 100 rookies in there. There's autos and Prizms and auto jerseys and auto primes...out of all those boxes with those cards, the biggest name rookie he hit was a Christian Thomas /25. He hit two Richard Panik autos. He hit a Ducks goalie, but the one that wasn't Andersen or Gibson.
This is all with the benefit of hindsight on 13-14 and how that class has panned out, but he got hit pretty badly on the rookies. Yeah it's like that with every product now, and it's gotten much worse given the polarization of the rookie market between the upper echelon of 3-5 rookies and...literally all of the other ones.
All of the companies could stand to do more by doing less.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I say any of those could be probable, especially a combination of 2 and 1, but I also see this as unlikely.
Also if for whatever reason this unknown guy is onto something, whos to say its back into NHL Hockey?

I personally would like to see a deeper rookie checklist. How many products this year have not had at least 1 rookie from every team in the product? In Premier, 9 teams do not have acetate rpa in order for phoenix to have 5 and Toronto to have 7 of the 42 rookies. So in total 2 teams have 28.5% of the set. How is that fair to Vancouver, Anaheim, Nashville, Minnesota, etc fans who don't have a card to chase in the set of their rookie. Does Toronto really have 7 rookies who are more deserving of that honor (yes at least 3 do, but 7?)? Upper Deck at times appears to have lost its focus on providing something to the entire collection of and are instead focusing on the flippers.

Wow yeah I forgot about those and totally shouldn't have. They actually made really nice soccer stuff since they understood that market and it was avoided by American card companies for years but yeah Panini either needs to hire more of a workforce or stop entering markets because they cannot handle what they have now.Selling all my cards here updated as of June------------> Hidden Content
