He didn’t say UD failed; he said they dropped the ball, and to a large extent I agree.
The point that he’s trying to make is that he wants more cards made—out of the belief that there are more significant moments so far than are getting recognized in the set. To me, it’s pretty crazy that UD didn’t take advantage of Drouin’s shootout winner in the Habs season opener—that’s a license to print money right there as fans would have jumped on that moment. There have been others as well.
It’s not that they’re picking the wrong moments or ones without significance but that they’re not doing enough to create a real “biography of a season” type set with this opportunity.

If they had made the first red wings penalty shot in LCA a few week ago, which was also the first one Detroit scored one in 10 years, I would have bought that card.

Dropping the ball - or puck, in this case - equals failure in my book. UD is supposed to be good at this stuff by now. They just seem to phone it in most of the time. Let's stop buying the things on which UD does not deliver. It is the ONLY way to send the message and have anyone listen.

If it were a typical release, where everything was already done and out the door, I'd agree. But there's a distinction to be made between an early disappointment and an outright failure. Think of the Canadiens' season to date--major disappointment having them come out of the blocks as slowly as they did. But there's still lots of time to correct things and get back on course. If they ultimately do miss the playoffs, that's a failure. Same principle applies here for UD--if they ratchet it up to 3-4 moments per week and capture a lot of fans' interest, that's a correction from an early disappointment.
