Sorry to disagree with your last statement about Crosby. Most of the all time greats had great players around them. Shoot, Gretzky's Oiler teams had HOF lineups.
Look over the past few years at the players to Crosby's right and left i.e. Kunitz, Dupuis, Sheary, Rust, Guentzel etc. Are these players household names without Crosby? Do they score big goals on another team? Probably not.

These debates are always fun, but it's always so hard to compare players of different eras. All the players mentioned in this threads have an argument to be in the top 10. All I know, it's fun to look at their rookie cards and realize I can't afford them!

Crosby isn't even top 2 on the Pens. Including goalies, I would have a hard time putting him in the top 20. How many Art Ross trophies does he have? It amazes me that no one mentions Lafleur on their lists. (Yes, I am biased)
1. Orr
2. Gretzky
3. Lemieux
4. Howe
5. Richard
6. Lafleur
7. Harvey
8. Yzerman
9. Kharlamov
10. Messier

Let's not compare positions, it's impossible to say that Crosby is better that a goaler. As a forward, I think Crosby is a greater all around player than Gretzky and Lemieux, his defensive play is so far ahead these two. Offensively, the eras are too different to compare stats, but I believe that Crosby would have had a few 150+ points seasons in the 80's and early 90's, as Lemieux. Gretzky is incomparable in that aspect but he played at a time where (Roy apart) goalies were horrible). Jagr is great but not to their level. Howe was a force to reckon with, but I rarely hear old timers compare him to Gretzky or Lemieux, although he was a phenom. I'd put Crosby very very high in the list based on the difficult era he plays in offensively, his def play and his greater leadership skill. #2 behind the Great One?

Either you are a Crosby hater, either you are seeing someone I don't. Crosby is, year after year, in the top scorers of the NHL. He wins everything, he makes his team better simply by being on the bench! Every team NEEDS to put their best defensive players against HIS line, so his teammates have a slightly better chance of scoring and he is STILL a league leader in points, goals, etc.
Players had lousy skates, the ice was horrible, the sticks were made of wood. If the goaltender's equipment was smaller and that made it so easy for players to score, why did the league leaders score so little? Every piece of equipment had improved with time, making shots faster, skaters faster, hits harder, etc. If you want to compare eras, then Roy is the sole leader in that category for me as he changed the face of goaltending forever AND he won 3 Conn Smythe, something even Gretzky, Lemieux or Crosby have done (yet, maybe Crosby will.)
