Hockey Advertisement taken to another level...
At the 2017 Karjala Cup, Jhonas Enroth will be sporting an interesting set of CCM Revolution pads in the tournament:
I'd say these pads are about as "clean" as you can get.

Not that he has much of a choice (using goalie gear as a moving billboard has been a thing for many years now), but I found this quite amusing.
I'm a goalie as well, and I couldn't imagine wearing these type of ads on my new gear.
Thought I would share!
Edit: As a sidenote, I hope someone makes a hockey card set for this tournament so I can get a card with him wearing this Head & Shoulders gear. That would be pretty neat I think, haha.Last edited by creasecollector; 11-06-2017 at 06:50 PM.

It’s only a matter of time before all of the big 4 follow the lead of European leagues. Look at the nba, they have already started with corporate logos on the left shoulder area

It's sad, but probably true.
I sure hope not though. So much advertising just kills the appeal of the jerseys.
Money talks though, and I suspect someone will cave and sign the deal one of these days that brings all these ads onto jerseys, etc.
Edit:
But I would like to see maybe a rule put in place that if/when ads are introduced in the NHL, that it doesn't interfere with the "design or artistic integrity" of the original purpose on the sweater, or some official wording for a rule for this topic. Because there's no way we can get to those European league levels in terms of their ads.Last edited by creasecollector; 11-06-2017 at 09:25 PM.

I admire that this H&S ad isn't glaringly obvious like it could be with bolder colors. The thing that would make me angry with an advertisement would being forced to buy a jersey with an ad on it. I shouldn't pay you to advertise for you.

Blech.
I mean, come on. Like Philip J. Fry once said: We have advertisements on TV and radio, and in magazines, and movies, and at ball games... and on buses and milk cartons and t-shirts, and bananas, and written on the sky. But not on jerseys or goalie pads, no siree.
At least I think that's what he said.Last edited by Thick McRunfast; 11-07-2017 at 11:08 AM.

Looks odd, but yeah.... not surprised.
More advertising is coming. Slowly, but it's coming.
The league that (I think) may be ahead of the curve on this one is actually the CFL. They're a little more in need of a cash influx than the other North American leagues... so it makes sense (in terms of a needed revenue stream) that they'd so something like this first:

Two corporate logos, high on the front of the jersey. One of them is a league sponsor (CP Rail) and the other is a team sponsor (in the case of Hamilton it's Tim Horton's - but all teams have one).
I could see any league putting similar patches on the fronts of their jerseys.
The other one that everyone should remember with the NHL: A few years back they instituted a rule that says a player can not tuck in his jersey. I forgot the reasoning at the time, I just remember not buying it (at all). Part of it was probably so that the manufacturer's logo was still visible, but that might just be my fuzzy memory.
I would bet the real reason is that when (not if) the NHL starts to sell advertising on their jerseys - the first place they'll sell is the bottom of the backs. Look at this image:

Yeah, I realize that's the front of the jersey - but just look where the Ramada advertisement is, and put that on the back instead.
I think the transition is inevitable. People will complain, we'll insist that the sacred jersey is being ruined, and then 3 weeks later we'll stop caring (most of us, anyway).
The other big benefit the NHL gets from this: If you change sponsors every couple of years, people will have to buy a new jersey to have the current one.

Why didn't they just make the shampoo bottle a little bit bigger and print it over the entire pad? The shape is almost exactly the same.

Similar to soccer jerseys too. Once the team sponsor on the front is changed, fans will run out to buy the current jersey (the same if not similar), but with the new corporate sponsorship logo on the front.
